After some budget creep (you may remember I was looking at £170-£180 range for graphics cards) I ended up with... a 4GB Asus AMD R9 290X DirectCU II (mouthful!) which is about a foot long and a hair shy of £230.

Still sort of stress testing my rig as the PSU I have is a bit marginal I fear (a Thermaltake Toughpower XT 675...) but holy moly, the first time I've had the settings at ultra in anything (Dirt Rally and GTAV).

I was eager to install it so no "before" pics. Here it is next to my old HD 6870... bloody huge.

I just bought the same card but without the x for £229. Where did you get the x variant from for that price?

To help me with my mental health problems, my partner suggested i try adult colouring books. so I have recently bought some books and a most excellent set, after trying cheaper ones first, of 72 Koh-I-Noor Polycolor pencils. http://www.koh-i-noor.cz/en/shop/set-of-artist-s-coloured-pencils-3827-72?rc=1221 These are a delight to use and, oddly enough, my partner says they are bringing out my artistic side. I didn't think I had one......

Scan. I hunted around a bit and nowhere else could touch 'em for this card. That's how I justified the budget creep to myself :thumb:

Now that's a nice set of pencils, well worth the money you spent on them (I'm guessing £60-70). I'm a tad bit jealous, even though I have too many coloured pencils...

I went through a large splurge when I was laid up towards the end of last week and over the weekend. Some new test & measurement gear:

Fluke 424D to replace a 419D that isn't cutting it on larger jobs:

Fluke 233 which I originally thought was a gimmicky meter when I first saw it, actually became necessary for me! This replaces a 117 as my "electrician's meter" when I don't need the added micro/milli ranges and other features of the 189. I still have to carry the 189 for data logging and electronics work though:

Fluke 62 Max+ in all honesty I don't need this, but it's only a matter of time before I drop and break the el cheapo non-contact thermometer that I use at the moment, and this one is built a lot tougher and has added benefits of a wider range and better accuracy:

Rigol DS1054Z. Bigger, better revision of my DS1052E. Lots of software features to unlock with upgrades in the future!

Corsair HX1000i to replace a faulty HX1000 from my gaming rig. The HX1000 is still under warranty but I'll have a hard time proving the fault. It'll boot a PC from cold, then last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, then after that it cuts in and out every time you hard reset it. Seems to be pulling the +3.3 volt rail low after a few minutes which shuts down the whole PSU, probably due to heat but I haven't broken the warrranty seal to probe much at it. Fingers crossed Corsair have good engineers who can prove it's faulty and reimburse me for the HX1000i, I've warrantied "flat out dead" HX series power supplies before, but I don't know about an intermittent fault like this.

Holiday booked Truro for next week. Cannot believe I am leaving the house for 3 nights but have promised the Mrs I'd take to where she grew up. She has not been back for over 30 years so should be fun.

Doesn't it have to be in packaging brand new unopened as well?

A Combro CB-625 chronoschope. There are more feature-packed and robust barrel-mount chronos around, but not for under £50 delivered next-day. It's a tool every airgunner should own, as it's the responsibility of whomever is carrying the gun at the time to know it's below the 12ft/lbs limit. Guns above that require a Firearms Certificate (FAC) - and if you've got a 12ft/lbs+ rifle without a FAC, even if it's 12.01ft/lbs, then it's up to five years in chokey for ownership of an unlicensed firearm.

(My AA S410 measured under, I'm pleased to say!)

The Air Arms S410 is a lovely air rifle.

How have you got it kitted out? magazine? moderator? scope?

The rifle itself is a stock pre-AT Classic with beech stock and standard 10-shot magazine in .22 calibre. I've tuned the trigger to my liking and added the official AA moderator and a Hawke HD Sport 3-9x40 scope. Does the job, although it's a little heavy for a day's hunting. I'd like to add sling mounts, but I'm terrified I'll wreck it. Think I might take it to the local gun shop and get them to do that, in case I screw up the stock!

I'm joining the local rifle club next week, and if all goes well I might be upgrading. I have my eye on this rather lovely Daystate Wolverine Type-C bundle, but it's a lot of cash. It'll all depend on whether I get accepted for full membership of the club and how much cash I get selling off my vintage computer collection. Fingers crossed I can make it happen, 'cos that's a crackin' rifle.

EDIT: Made a new thread, to keep things on-topic here. Well as on-topic as we ever get, anyway.

A whole bunch of Arduino (compatible) gubbins.

Just remembered I have an old PS One mini screen in the spares cupboard too, I'm going to attempt to get it running.
