A couple of new 2Tb drives to upgrade my storage server and a miniHDMI to normal HDMI adapter so I can plug my PC into the plasma telly.

Oh and a new front number plate after some idiot put a crack in it (not me!).

It's my own fault for setting it off on a job, then having my dinner and forgetting to check the water temps :duh:

A NAS enclosure. I've tried and failed to setup my own NAS system using my Core i7 mATX PC but I just can't get the thing to run properly. It doesn't need to be anything fancy and if I can't get it to work right I've got 14 days to send it back.

    I have failed at FreeNAS.

I am sort of breaking my own rules by cheap, I know I'm going to end up buying twice !

you need at least 1GB of ram for each TB of NAS storage for it to run properly so im told. but im not an expert in servers.

I have used Freenas a bunch, but yea you want at least 1gb of ram, I have seen reasoning where you want at least 8gb of ECC ram then on top of that you want the 1gb of ram per TB, I will say I just have 8gb in mine and its fine, not had an issue.

And with buying twice i ended up doing that, as my Hp micro has done all it can for me so I need an upgrade the N50L will be transferred into purely a backup array for the new Rack

IIIRC this is only when you're using the ZFS filesystem (even then you could use less, but it's "not recommended", because of a very small chance you could lose all your data ;) - this is also the reason to use ECC ram). With UFS you can do with less.

Setting up FreeNAS, IPMI and a few jails with applications was a huge PITA for me too, but the good thing is, once you get it up and running (and begin to understand how/why everything works) it's pretty low-maintenance. It's a learning experience.

Question: did you deliberately buy two with the stock cooler and one with an aftermarket?

Bought a Helios-44-2 from eBay (£9.99) so I could grab the front element from it to replace the one on my rarer Helios-44 13 aperture blade model which has seen better days. The thing is the 'new' Helios I just bought looks absolutely immaculate. I'm going to feel bad stripping it down for parts.

I'm a massive Neil Gaiman fan. I've got all of the sandman volumes and I think nearly all of his novels. American Gods is one of my particular favourites, it's just so witty.

When the 980's first came out I could only get three superclockeds in that mix if I wanted three cards.

This time I got all the TI in acx coolers, but I will he fitting waterblocks anyway
