Pair of Nike Lunarglide 7 running shoes. Did my first run in them yesterday, world of difference when compared with my previous Asics.

My old Voodoo Hoodoo was stolen from Reading a few weeks ago so I thought I'd treat myself to one of these!

Currently have a PS4 in my Amazon basket, 'cos my PS3 blew up last night. Holding off on purchasing, though, because early reviews (and I can't find any updated reviews that say any different) claim that European Blu-ray and DVD playback is of noticeably worse quality than the PS3 and there's still no equivalent to the lovely PS3 Media Remote. Wondering whether a PS3 super-slim (for about £152, less than half the price) would be a better option - or even a second-hand unit.

I think I have a PS3 base unit in the loft that YLOD'd - it's yours for postage if you want to strip it down and try a gas mark 5 reflow.

Appreciate the offer - and I know a few friends with proper reflow ovens - but I'm not sure I want to invest the time, when a second-hand super-slim would only cost around £65 from CEX.

Still haven't totally decided not to upgrade to a PS4 - I could get the new version with bundled PlayStation TV and stream games to a second TV while the wife is watching her stories - but I'm still pee'd off about the lowered playback quality, lack of media remote support, and no CD playback. I mean, seriously? No CD playback?! The original PlayStation had that, f'gawd's sake. Hell, so did the Sega Mega-CD!

I haven't noticed any difference between my PS3 and PS4 with BD playback to be honest.

My PS4 seems to play Blu-ray films just the same as my old PS3 did as well, no difference from what I can tell.

    ----
Not yet purchased, but at the moment I'm debating between a selection of ultra-wide monitors to replace my 27" screen.
Also considering re-doing my entire gaming rig, desk and chair setup.

...but you just bought Pete*'s Asus Transformer? and still have your Note 10.1? no? Why do you need a third tablet device?!

Reviews suggest otherwise: the deinterlacer is terrible quality and forced-on and it doesn't cope well with non-US framerates, so while it works nicely for 1080p24 content, European 25p/50i content looks gash. It's even worse for DVD playback, I'm told. There was an update some time ago which may or may not have improved the deinterlacer, but general consensus is still that the PS4 is poorer than the PS3 at disc-based media playback. Least, that's what I've been able to find on Google.

I saw that, but t'ain't out yet - and there's no word on a UK release, neither. Still, I guess I could import it if I got stuck.

Transformer TF700, lovely screen but no processing power to do anything else. Sold that on this morning. The Note is going to the missus so I bought the Tab.

Aye, I saw that, but I'm a bit concerned about it addressing "some" of the issues, rather than all of them. No details about what tests were performed, either.
Two reasons: I have a shed-load of DVDs, and I sure as heck ain't re-buying them on Blu-ray (for the content that even had Blu-ray releases, which is far from all of it); and here in the UK a lot of Blu-ray TV and documentary content is encoded in 50i (because it was filmed to be shown on 50Hz TV at 25fps, and the Blu-ray standard doesn't do 25p so 50i is the closest it can do without having to do pull-down conversion).

The quality of said DVDs, TV and documentary content is fine on the PS3, incidentally. I have no idea how Sony, which created the Blu-ray standard, has managed to release a next-generation console which is demonstrably poorer at Blu-ray playback than its last-generation equivalent.

I'll agree it is odd that Sony did that, especially as their standalone players are flipping excellent (I have two) so they clearly know what they're doing. I can only assume it's a different engineering team who just didn't care enough?

Not ordered from this lot before, but have heard good things to figured I would give them a spin.

Lovely presentation and all, but they're on the more expensive side of things - I'm hoping there's more to it than some posh bags and box.
