Haven't not used speakers between the birth of my first littlun, until we moved her into her own room about 4 months ago (about a year all in).
I can't stand being not able to hear what's going on around me and speakers in a room just seem so much richer to me than the isolated sounds of a pair of cans on my noggin.

I wouldn't either but when I am waiting for parcels the headphones tend to stop me hearing the doorbell.

I did have a set of full blown audiophile speakers on my desk but as my monitor grew they proved too unwieldy.

So I just bought a set of used Bose speakers that are smaller and handy if I ever need to have the audio going without my headphones :)

Did you get it through invite or Chinese import?

I'll be in the market for a new phone come Jan/Feb so it'd be interesting to see how this matches up against the 5X

Apparently someone used my credit card to buy 1200$ worth of jewelry and watches : / Hopefully my bank security department contacted me and reversed the transactions. I said to the guy 'Look, I use my credit card to pay my phone bill, my gym, a few games on Steam and my tea. I never use it for big transactions'

Tai-Hao PBT double shot ISO caps from UK Keycaps. The Vortex caps went back to Corus as they weren't willing to send out the missing key!

Been wanting to pick one of these up for years now, finally puckered up and took the plunge.

A Vacstar Sous-Vide thermal circulator along with a 28l stainless container:

Fancied dabbling with sous-vide cooking for ages but the equipment was always just too expensive. Things have really fallen in price recently, so I figured since I already have a vacuum packer (for freezing home grown vegetables and caught fish mostly) I may as well take the opportunity to give it a go. Should be fun!

So... sous-vide cooking is a fancy name for boil-in-the-bag?

In essence, pretty much, just without the boiling bit. The idea is you cook the food at a precise, particular temperature, usually a fair bit below boiling point. When done right it allows an immense amount of control over the results as the water bath maintains the temperature allowing very even cooking. Great for steaks (so you can cook it medium-rare throughout an entire joint for instance) as long as you properly sear it afterwards. Vegetables can also really benefit as you're cooking at a lower temperature, which in theory can maintain the flavour better (compare a raw carrot to a boiled one for instance).

It's extra effort, but if you like cooking it's definitely worth it IMO, not for everybody though.

ooh sous-vide cooker - would love one myself but kitchen space is seriously lacking so it would end up being one of those things which doesn't get used very often which would be a shame, would love to give it a go :)

Aye this was definitely a concern for me too. Kitchen's are one of those things that simply never seem to be big enough somehow, it's just so easy to fill them up with stuff, most of which you don't use rofl. I'm quite taken with the idea of having a thermal circulator though. In theory you could get that and then just use it with a normal large pot (what I intend to be doing for most dishes). In that case it shouldn't take up much room as the unit itself isn't that large. I picked up the container as I intend to do larger items like baby back ribs or whole joints, which take a while too. I didn't fancy having the water level drop too much for something like that, the container will help a lot on that front (I can pack it upstairs and then just take it out for occasions).

For small things like some carrots and a chicken breast or two I'll just use a normal pot. Things like that only take a maximum of about an hour so water level isn't really a concern.
