Several Panic! at the disco tracks on iTunes, having just discovered them from the awesome video for Emperor's new clothes (don't know why I haven't listened to these before).

I used to play a bit of hockey too - and I agree, field hockey just hasn't got it like ice hockey (or roller hockey) does. I'd love to get back into it - all I seem to manage these days is a bit of casual showing off if I go skating (and resisting the urge to check people into the boards)...

Another set of brand new 150mm Rockshox Revelations (2015/16 RL model, Solo Air, PushLoc remote) for £165 inc. postage.

I don't need them, but as with the Lyrik's I got before, I placed a max bid that I knew was below the point i'd be able to sell them on for.

Question is, do I sell my 2017/18 Rev's for £270/280 and come away with pretty much the same forks, but with some money in my pocket, or just sell these on and make a quick £20-30??

We were supposed to be leaders of philosophy and being responsible for our own actions. And then we decided it was a great idea to tell adults which games to play, which music to listen to, and which books to read by simply refusing access to anything that some random control medium (FSK = Freiwillige SelbstKontrolle = voluntary self-control --- its recommendations where just that, recommendations; I have no idea when they became the law) decided to be a possible bad influence on children. And about swastika: Wolfenstein 3D, the 1994 original, is still considered harmful to young people and cannot be bought by anybody under the age of 18. For ten years (until 2004) it was even illegal to own a copy because of the Nazi-content. Yeah... we really found a working way of dealing with our history. Hell, my father was born in 1946. We cannot be held responsible for what people did 80 years ago. We obviously have to learn from it and never do anything like it again, but how are we supposed to do that when people are still scared just talking about it?

    /rant... sorry.

Not going to lie: if you'd asked me what I was likely to see on the forum today, "Immanuel Kant in the original" wouldn't have been on the list.

I find Germany to be very, very, odd when it comes to national pride, and how it handles the rise and fall of the Nazi party.

I understand, sort of, why certain things are illegal - But the wilful, even enforced, ignorance of everything even related to Nazi's is.. Well. Weird. I feel like, having read Mein Kampf, there's no reason to make it illegal because it's ****ing retarded. Hitler, however skilled an orator he was, was absolutely blind when it came to writing. Whether it was the translation or not, sentences just.. Stopped. Mid thought. The notion that that pile of arse could do anything but make the younger generations go "Jesus, this guy was captain of the dip****-ship" is absurd to me. The kind of person who would follow that book probably -already- have a copy of the damned thing, one way or another. The removal of Nazi's from games makes no sense - I've yet to see one where they're not portrayed as the bad guy, or flat out mental (Coughwolfensteincough), and I'd have thought the protections of 'artistic media' or whatever it is for films should extend to games..

It's made me mildly ponderous about my move there later in the year - All my games will, of course, feature full-bore Nazi stuff. Will that mean I'm liable for a dose of talking to the Police? What about Hanzel Und Gretyl (band)? One of their songs features the lyrics 'Deutschland Deutschland Number one' - I'm aware that the 'Deutschland uber alles' piece of music is.. Not kosher, does that extend to other music that's in a very, very, similar vein?

All in all I feel like Germany as a whole needs to back down on the barring of Nazi-related/adjacent material and trust the citizens are well rounded enough not to try and start it all off again. Not that, at the end of the day, the law would really stop that sort of movement anyway, given how much traction the far right parties seem to be getting.

I can understand the anti Nazi paranoia in Germany but, I really cannot understand the popularity of the extreme right wing political groups/parties, the same goes for France. Have those people learned nothing from their country's history in the last century? I'm sure they haven't simply forgotten what the Nazi's did because it is kept quiet about, those extreme groups know exactly what the Nazi's did and why.

The only conclusion I have for my lack of understanding the German perspective is, well, being English it's always been seen from the 'victorious' side, so any opinion is going to be tainted I guess.

I don't understand the rise of the far right at all - No matter the country. It's not like there were many that were unaffected by the second world war, or any of the conflicts since that've been absurd.

On topic: Some 3D prints from Shapeways, and some replacement Cherry MX Blacks for the Filco. I think left ctrl is having a bit of a hissy fit. Doesn't always register without a harsh stab.

I would argue that German kids get the dangers of the right wing beaten into them all throughout school.
The amount of exposure to old videos of concentration camps, images of mass graves, etc I had by the time I was 12 meant that nothing in that line could shock me.
The banning of the Symbolism is relaxing more and more. Film companies are getting the rights to film aircraft with swastikas on them over Germany easier than before, and the amount of censorship that happens is reducing as well.
The general rule in Germany is "reverse America" - Nudity and sex is A-OK. Violence - not so much.
The right wing election results always seem (though not based on any research I did) fuelled by (surprisingly) people that aren't 15th generation Germans. Surprisingly enough (to me) a lot of my exposure to people that think like that come from ex-GDR parts of the country, and people of foreign-decent (often eastern european).
I suppose it's in some ways similar to the demographic that voted pro-brexit...

Anyway... very serious topic for this early in the morning.
What did I recently spend money on? A rental car and craploads of food. Camping in Namibia's north once again over easter.

I hope Germany reverses the whole lot, to be quite frank, it's absurd (to me) that it should still behave and "feel" that way with regards to history. I'm curious to see what it's like when I spend more than the odd week there.
