    expensive month for me.

after trying a few diff tvs and returning them went for a 2nd hand one with transferable warranty. oled is a no no as between 11am and 6pm
parts of the screen will be in direct sunlight. will mostly be used for gaming and some day time t00ns and footy.
think after visiting a couple of places to demo ihmo sports was only better on sonys zd9 which is still fetching a premium price.

damn shame no one does a "dumb" tv any more all i wanted was a fast resposive tv that was good with sports and zero smart tv crap

I very briefly got all excited! S-Video works fine though for a bit of Summer Games action.

Shiiiiny. I had a lovely Commodore 1084 (not S, sadly, mono sound only), but it let out the magic smoke in terminal fashion. The only CRT left in the house is my Panasonic Quintrix 28" monster with built-in Dolby Pro-Logic surround sound (which doesn't actually have its rear speakers plugged in, owing to the layout of the office.)

I searched high and low for one which didn't break the bank, and I found someone who was getting rid of some old medical supplies. It's good - it's a Sony PVM20M2-MDE, and it's got two RGB in, one S-Video, and one Composite.

It was for monitoring endoscopies. When it's been on a bit and warm, it smells like hospital.

Those Panasonic Quintrix jobs are good tubes - 28" is a biggie too. Nice!

In fact, @Gareth Halfacree, if you've still got the 1084, I might know a man who can mend. Drop me a PM if you like - I can give you his details/give him a shout for you.

Long since gone, sadly. I did have a look, and from what I could see it was properly terminal - so it went off to a scrappers to be recycled into... I dunno, whatever it is they recycle old CRTs into. Lumps of poison on a slow boat to China, probably.

Oh, what am I talking about "the only CRT left in the house": there's two of the buggers in the PlayChoice-10!

EDIT: Oh, and the little 14" portable with built-in VHS player which graced the front of the emulation article a couple of Custom PCs ago. Okay, so I have four CRTs in the house...

Shame - if it was the tube or the flyback which went phut, might be difficult to mend. Chassis repairs otherwise aren't too bad.

CRTs! Everywhere! I've rationalised to just the one in each of my (five) cabinets, the Sony PVM, and a little S-Video only JVC BVM. They're just so bulky, but them retro feels...

I watched a chunk of the England v Colombia game on the Sony PVM as I was testing it. The penalties on a 20" CRT really brought memories of Euro '96 flooding back.

This is going back a fair bit and mega-basic these days, but have you ever taken a look at MPW's White Heat?

It's a bit of a picture fest but I hold it high enough that it stays with my Escoffier at all times!

This is my first properfoodie book... basic might not be bad, as at least 50% of Sat's book is well beyond my abilities/kitchen. Doesn't stop me from trying though.

Chatting to him this morning he queried whether I cooked... I wasn't sure how to answer since I think we have different definitions of the word. I gave a tentative "yes" and hoped not to get found out

You'll have to keep us informed! I love witnessing the eureka moment when a dish comes good for the first time. I'd love to get a look at some of his dishes seeing as I'm not all that familiar (shameful really!) possibly a future purchase of my own :thumb:

Just checked out his homepage. The price for a 10 course meal is ... reasonable. :eeek: What keeps me away from two star restaurants in Germany is the idea of paying 150+ for 5-6 courses. Well, I know where to go whenever I'll next make it to the UK.

I've been leafing through the book this evening - it's great. A good balance between story, pictures and detail - and it's enormous and very well put together. More of a tome than a book really! No way it's coming in the kitchen - I'll be taking a snap of the page and viewing it on the tablet when it comes to it. I'd say the finest meals I've ever had are at Sat's, and that list includes greats such as Alinea, Le Manoir, Joel Robuchon - highly recommended, the restaurant and the book. Double bonus that it's on my doorstep.

There's a sous vide on Amazon deals tomorrow morning, handily.

First time I went was around 10 years ago, and the price was the same - I guess he's just found something that works for him and stuck with it? Between the meal for two, the top-shelf wine pairing (they do three options) and a suite for the evening including an equally wonderful breakfast, £860. Granted, many pounds, but half the cost of the same at Le Manoir.

I've still not been to the Fat Duck mainly due to the fact that you'd be lucky to get out from a meal for two with wine for less than £1200, and I'd still need to find somewhere to stay. Maybe it's the best, maybe it's merely great, but I feel like I'd rather do Sat's twice.
