26" BeoVision MX6000 CRT TV. Sadly though I only got the BeoLink 1000 remote instead of the really fancy Beo4 remote, but I did get the motorised stand. Grand total of £10... BeoVision CRT TVs can go for a lot more than that...

Dremel for cutting tubes, hopefully making my own aluminium gears/pinions, opening battery packs, and cutting rods to size, should not have sold my 4000 awhile back!

I had a list of things that I'd check out when Amazon do their thing, and most of it came up cheap:

    - Whole bunch of Under Armour gym stuff for myself and the Mrs
    - Logitech Harmony Elite
    - Anova Sous Vide, vacuum sealer and bags
    - Couple of 4K BDs
    - Hue Motion sensor

I had a look, and not a single thing on my wishlist is part of the Prime Day sale. Some of it - like Doom for the Switch, which was £40 when I added it to my wishlist and is £45 now - has actually gone up.

Which, ironically, saves me money. Hooray!

Might have found an Elgato Green Screen at the local branch of GAME - Reserved in case it's really there and the £129.99 they claim.

EDIT - Reservation confirmed, collecting after work.

I only had a speculative look and was surprised to find something genuinely useful to me.

Prime day bits. Wanted to get the full HP range for a while and 1/3 off doesn't hurt. Plus the wallet was half price and mine used to be brown ... and textured ... but is now black and smooth from years of use so yeah that'll be nice too.

Found out later in the evening that it's the v1.1 model instead of the far more sought-after v3.x. On the v1.1 model you have to open up the back of the TV and short out some pins near one of the SCART sockets in order to access the service menu (where you can adjust lots of apparently really useful settings) - on the later models you can just use a button sequence on the remote (menu-0-0-go, or menu-1-1-go)... If I have the inclination I might have a go at modding it by fitting a momentary push-to-make switch across those pins and mounting it into the back panel. Not really keen on the idea of opening up a CRT TV though, those things hold some nasty voltages just waiting for the unwary idiot with a screwdriver - I'd really have to be convinced of the benefits of doing so.

But it's still a very nice screen and the remote alone is worth more than double what I paid for the TV, motorised stand, and TV - I've seen the BeoLink 1000 remote sell for anything between £15 and £50.

Buy SCART extension cable. Open up cable. Fit switch to wires leading to the pins you're after. Tidy cable. Job done, and you've never had to take the back off the TV.

Alternatively, buy a SCART plug and wire it up as the short: when you need the service menu, disconnect current SCART device and plug in your Special Service Plug.

Key word there unfortunately is "near", it's not actually on the SCART pins/connector itself - from the service manual:

(Pressing "TV" on the remote turns it on).

It's probably not half as bad as I'm making it sound TBH, I'm just wary of having a CRT TV powered up while the back casing is off!

Ooh, that's annoying. I have to fiddle with my arcade cab's CRTs with the back off to adjust 'em, and it's pretty safe. Just don't lick the HT lead.

Gareth, how do you find the XPS? I'm looking at a laptop for the first time properly and I could get an XPS 15 2-in-1 for about €1,500. Reckon it's worth it over an Inspiron?

Looking at the i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD model.

Mine's the same spec, but 7th gen rather than 8th (and obviously the non-convertible 13"). Battery life is fantastic, 18 hours plus; the 1080p matt screen is wonderful; performance is great; size is amazing, making my old MacBook Air look chunky; being able to replace the SSD and battery is nice. My only complaints: there's wasted space by the cursor block on the keyboard, which I note Dell has fixed on the latest model by filling it with dedicated Page Up/Down keys (would have been nice to have, that); and the pre-installed Ubuntu I got it with wasn't as optimised for the hardware as I would have liked (but obviously isn't a consideration if you're getting the Windows version.)

All in all, though, I'm a happy camper!
