Car insurance time of year again, Admiral trying it on jacking up the renewal quote (by £250) time of year again.

Got a quote from LV for £350 less than I paid last year... even "we'll just pull something out of our arse" Admiral were unable to come close.
Generally pretty chuffed. Well as chuffed as one can be about renewing car insurance.

Now poring through the policy documents to find the catch that I missed...

And decided to try this pair for wireless audio from my TV:

I actually bought the transmitter a while back, but forgot to check the specs on the Bluetooth head earbuds I got for Christmas, they didn't support aptX, and the lag bothers me so figured I'd try the reciever.

That guy seems a bit too happy seeing as it appears his headphones are duff if he can hear someone off to his right.

Pi. On the list of 'get around to that' for me. If I can think of a reason I need one it'd be easier to get off my behind and get one.

If only someone wrote a book on Pi, you know that details what it is and what it does...

I'm with Admiral and have been for seven years. They've never been the cheapest but the difference (after haggling) has been so minimal that it wasn't worth switching.

If they hike mine up by £250, I'll be saying tatty-byes. I only pay £340 for the year in the first place!!

I've been with them for 4 years now, LV for a year before that, and then Admiral again for a few years before that. Last time I moved away, it was again due to a silly renewal quote, LV beat it by a bunch, and Admiral couldn't match.

Last year Admiral hiked mine up from £1600 to ~£4000. No I didn't mistype an extra zero. (nb, three policies)
So, I get some other quotes, obviously, and LV comes in at ~£1600.
I call up admiral, tell them they're crazy, he taps away at the computer, and very quickly comes back with just shy of that - a £2500 reduction with just a few adjustments apparently... otherwise known as "making it up"

This year though, Admiral gave me a renewal at £1800, LV quoted £1200, and the closest Admiral was able to get was £1600.
I still think they're all making it up, but I can't complain. Every other insurer out there is at least £1000 more, or decide they don't want to insure one of the cars at all, or mandate a tracker.

I used to have that with my JDM imported Impreza back in 2005. Most insurers wouldn't touch it because it's imported and therefore must be made of baked bean tins and tin foil, or they insisted that a tracker would make the car insurable.

I duly obliged and had a tracker installed for £300 cost plus ~£100 annual fee... It brought my premium down £70... Never again will I have a tracker fitted.

My mate had one fitted, financially he had little choice. It must have been faulty though as it constantly drained his battery, to the point that after stopping the car he'd open the bonnet and disconnect the battery. Cue text messages from the insurer saying that he'd disconnected it, etc.

The story develops when he finds himself in Glasgow, battery disconnected, car locked and he's accidentally shut the bonnet on his keys. I don't even recall how he sorted it out.

Sounds like he had it installed by Wonder & Keller Auto Electricians Ltd...

They're so low power, they should never drain the battery. Dodgy install for sure.

Oh yes of course, but for some reason he never complained, just took matters into his own clumsy, ill-conceived hands.
