Apple Remote! You wouldn't believe how many of those I keep lying around... I can't believe what they charge for em.

But yeah, new MBP is pure sex in general. I fondled lots of them today.

 

I just bought Portal, for $10. I was really excited to finally play it, BUT it didn't come with a serial number and I brought it at a mall that's 40 minutes away...
I'm so sad.

Has anybody played the portal: prelude mod?

 

nope. i bought a bottle wine tonight, got drunk, and now awake at 3am.

 

It came with a new Nano too? How'd you pull that off? And how did you get the applecare so cheap?

 

I'm doing a Masters at the minute, which means I qualify for the educational discount - for most things this means 15% off, but AppleCare is massively discounted. There's also a back to school promotion running at the minute, where you can buy an iPod at the same time as a Mac and then claim a £95 rebate, making the iPod Nano effectively £14. However, the guy looking after me in the Apple store actually forgot to scan the iPod, so I wasn't charged for it at all. I only realised when I got home - I'd go back and sort it, but it seems simpler to just not apply for the rebate.

Mike, let us know how well the Hybrid SLi works out on the system.

 

Not to get all geeky, but it's a big issue for the operations people in store. They've effectively just lost an iPod and will spend forever looking for it. Just give em a ring or something and let em know.

 

They don't just mark it down as a shoplift and get the tax deduction? Not that you stole it, but I expect they'd mark it down as such when figuring inventory.

Of course I don't work at an Apple store, so I'll take your word for it

Seems like a lot of discount though, I checked the EDU store and it was about $50 off the laptop, another $50 or so off Applecare and no free iPod. The program must be completely different in the UK.

 

But then surely they'll just make me pay for it? I would pay for it if it wasn't for the rebate, I just don't want the hassle TBH.

Last Apple rebate I did took about thirty seconds to fill out an online form, no box clipping, and I had the check within a week. Of course it may vary regionally, but it was by far the least hassle-free rebate I'd ever done. Quite the contrast to the $50 rebate attached with my 40D, I'd long since forgotten I was owed the money by the time I received the check.

 

Fair enough, but that's still more hassle than none, and I've got a lot on my plate atm (doing an MSc in AI and I've been sick this week so missed a couple of days and am going to have to work my ass off to catch up). K, what d'you reckon they'll say?

They'll say 'please come in and pay for it' probably, haha. It's up to you really, but I'm speaking from an inventory point of view so I guess I'm quite biased. If I was in your situation and didn't work for Apple I probably wouldn't care either.
