Basic one, £160. Within budget for the car too :)

I'll get pics once I pick it up - having trouble with getting a friggin tax disc right now because the tax ended end of last month and to renew I need a log book in my name etc. Pain in the backside.

If you're only after a basic one, Amazon are currently doing this for a bargainous price. Well worth it tbh, I have one and it's basically identical to the fancy widescreen jobbies. :)

You only need the green slip from the logbook - it's the insurance that always takes the time. You can't do it online, as the tax disc will go to the last owner's address, and you can't do it at the post office or DVLA (found that one out the hard way) because they won't check the insurance via the database - you need your covernote.

Sometimes this stuff is so fecking backwards it's unbelievable. If the web app can check the database for insurance, why can't the DVLA office do it FFS?

Because 99% of DVLA run buildings are living in the dark ages of technology. Seriously, knocking cocount shell halves together is about as advanced as they get.

I have no idea of this process - on one hand it says "it is an offense to not declare SORN and you could be charged £1000 fine" or "just take your documents down the PO including the V5C" (that I already have) and in other places it says 2-4 weeks?! It's pissing me off because I'm trying to give the government money and be legal.

I haven't got a clue and I need to be back at work on Weds :(

EDIT: Argh this is ****ing stupid! I have bought insurance, but it's registered to my home address in Bracknell. The car is in Swansea close to my parents in Cardiff and I need the CERTIFICATE not a receipt so I might have to wait until it's posted. I don't believe this country - I have everything I need, but clearly not in the correct order.

EDIT: Sod it - I'll have to get the last owner to post it to me from her address.

Yeah, I had massive problems trying to get tax for my car when it wasn't properly transferred from the previous owner (my dads other half) when she forgot to send the log book slip.

But generally you should be able to take the change of vehicle ownership slip from the bottom of the V5 (the one with your details on it) along with the insurance cover note or certificate of cover and get it at the post office and get it there.
A proper new V5 will take an age to come through though I've had it as fast as 2 weeks before.

My girl friend is going back to school and our Plymouth neon can't be in two places at once, so we decided to get a new vehicle. We capitalized on the fact of recent high gas prices and got a steal on a nice 2002 Ford Explorer Limited. Now we can haul the dogs around and still have room for friends and family.

    PICS!

    Hurray for gas guzzlers! :p

I must say it does look pretty awesome... my father, the buffoon, PX'ed the Ford Galaxy for a Lincoln Navigator once... swapped for a Merc ML at the next garage :p

I no! The Merc has rather appalling build quality and is a b*stard to service. The only reason I didn't say to get another Galaxy or a Sharan was because it came with 20" rims (which mum managed to scuff... repeatedly :wallbash:) and 4 TVs . Now he's moved on to a Touran, which is a fun little beasty...

Myself, I'm looking to get the Clio swapped for a Fiat 500... does anyone have anything to say on the matter? (i.e. has anyone here sampled a 500 and can provide feedback :))

It's not only high-capacity vehicles, either. The upwards trend of gas this past couple of years has devalued even my and other VIP sedans to well below £2,000:sigh: And it means kids who can afford such whips go out to buy all of those shite Acura sedans to flood our streets with boyracers:duh:
Once car companies return to the simpler days the 80s, they'll be on their way to better economy when combining today's engine technology with design principles 25 years aft; We have not only too much weight, but, also driving aids that do nothing to incite driver improvement (ABS, TCS, ASM). The finest examples of the most well-rounded cars in history have always been mechanically and functionally simple: Toyota Sprinter, McLaren F1, Honda City and Accord, VW Golf, KPGC10 Skyline, '60s Mustang, 911 from the air-cooled days, and so forth.
