Fanatec are in hot water at the moment - lots of people let down with orders that don't materialise, quality dropping through the floor etc. I wanted one of their wheel setups but tbh I don't think I'll bother.

Not into sim racing at all but, have only ever heard good things about Fanatec. A quick search came up with this: https://www.corsair.com/newsroom/pr...tec-the-leading-brand-for-sim-racing-hardware Seems the parent company has a lot of debt. I wonder if Corsair can get them back on the right track?

It's going on the desk, to my right. USB is perfect there.

I would never get a PC on my desk - and it's a right angled corner double! Far too much tech and clutter going on. It's suspended underneath.

Technically not my purchase but it was purchased for me, so I’m gonna count it.

    reMarkable 2

Only the “basic bitch” spec was authorised though - standard pen and no fancy “book” cover. Not too bothered about the pen because I plan to get a third party replacement. Probably the Lamy AL-Star EMR stylus, the overall shape is very similar to my Lamy Safari fountain pen and the nibs are apparently compatible with the reMarkable “marker” nibs.

I'm using an iPad Pro for work to take notes and it's been one of the best purchases of my professional life.

It's my private iPad, company didn't want to pay but was happy for me to use it.

I have the Lamy EMR. It works fine, but there's no eraser and it doesn't magnetically attach to the Remarkable like the official pen does.

    EDIT:
It also doesn't fit in the pen slot in the cloth case, so you'd need to carry it separately. (I just checked!)

The Staedtler Noris pencil-looking thing fits, tho'.

I’ve done that before and it worked well enough. The problem for me however is that the iPad doesn’t just take notes, it’s also… well, er… an iPad. I have access to social media, YouTube, god knows how many other streaming platforms, a web browser, etc. That can be (and, in my case, was) a distraction nightmare for someone with ADHD.

Things like “focus” modes or app lockouts don’t work because I know how to disable them. And neither does “you just need to be disciplined” - that just isn’t “A Thing (tm)” for someone with ADHD, if it was then I wouldn’t have spent 30-odd years berating myself for, among many other things, not being disciplined enough.

The reMarkable takes notes. That’s it. When I pick up that device that’s the only thing I will do with it. Apparently it makes for an OK-ish PDF viewer and a cumbersome-but-passable e-reader, but those features would actually be more inconvenient than just opening a PDF on my PC or reading books on my kindle.

Unless, apparently, you SSH in and use a script to swap in a modified binary which enables you to use the button on the Lamy EMR to activate the eraser .

I'm not actually sure that I will use that as yet - it means replacing a system binary with one from Some Totally Random GitHub User Who’s Totally Trustworthy (No Really). And would almost certainly break the next time the firmware updates. Recovering a borked firmware seems non-trivial - you need to build a custom adapter to bridge two of the Type-C pins in order to even get the unit into a “DFU”-type mode.

I’m not that bothered about the eraser anyway TBH - I won’t have one on the basic-spec “marker”, so it’s not like I’m losing functionality by swapping to a third-party stylus. And there are other third-party styluses (stylii…?) available where the eraser works natively - I just like the look of the Lamy one .

EDIT: Third-party styluses such as the “chonky-boi jumbo pencil” you mentioned in your edit

It's a *fantastic* PDF viewer, to be honest. It was passable before they added pinch-to-zoom, but it's great now. The only thing that'd improve it is if they did a version with the new colour E Ink panel in it... but given how much the current greyscale one already costs, oof.
I feel like the original Remarkable was better here, 'cos it had physical page-turn buttons; the Remarkable 2 relies on swipe gestures which it doesn't always recognise.

Thanks for the heads-up - PDFs are not a major thing for me, but that's good to know .

Honestly I think the last time I spent any amount of time in a PDF file was when I was extracting assets from one recently (converting a "print and play" board game PDF to assets for Tabletop Simulator).

If it wasn't for an Access to Work grant I wouldn't have paid for one myself. I definitely have a good use for it, but it's a lot of my own money to spend on what is essentially a single-purpose device.

Just realised the case I linked upthread means needing a longer video cable, as the GPU is at the front.
So, decent quality 5m DisplayPort cable obtained.

Every year we say "next year we'll go" and never actually have...

Added bonus that its the last year small'n will be eligible for a "child" pass.

Going all out and booking one of the VIP airstreams seemed like a good idea until being hit with a £6000 basket... and while the rest of the glamping options were much more reasonable at the end of the day a tent is still a tent. So, day passes only and will work out where to stay or whether to commute nearer the time.

    £6k eh?

Yeah a lot but then you've been putting it off so if you just divide it by the number of years you've been meaning to go, well, it's much cheaper if you consider you've sacrificed those years as saving years...

I always think it's best to spend more on one great trip than less and going more often.

That's how I'd rationalise it and make it feel like a bit of good value anyway

What kind of right angled you got mate?

I'll be in the market when I move and fancy a lot more space and I do like a corner.

I've had it years, it's an Ikea jobbie but I've just spent the last half an hour trawling the site and the web and I'm not sure they do it any more. If I can find the name of it on a book in a house folder somewhere downstairs, I will advise, but for now the best approximation is one of these but in a sort of pine colour, then there's an additional matching square desk piece that adds to the shorter side (protruding towards camera in pic below, if you can imagine that) to make it an equal length 90 degrees all round, but I can't find this on the Ikea site either!

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Mine has better trestle-type legs and a hanging shelf thing that the PC sits on to keep it off the dusty floor and below the desktop, plus there's a matching sort of desktop printer pedestal that I've got on the record cabinet behind and a drawer pedestal that goes underneath. The angle is wicked - monitors and work on one side, decks and fun stuff on the other. That is a total mishmash of images for which I apologise, however, the Ikea site is not like it used to be and I can't find anything similar to what I have or the options to customise like there used to be. I would of course post a pic but this is the internet and my room is a tip...:worried:

    Thanks for that @ModSquid

Yeah the IKEA site isn't what it was. It'll be a little way off until I get one but I do fancy something more along the lines of what you describe.

Maybe not a full on equal length 90 degree table but certainly more than the little bump alot of desks now seem to employ.

Don't worry about pics, I fully understand. The closest mine will get to not looking like a tip will be as I pack it all up to move later in the year

Actually, hm, it has got me thinking. Maybe I'll start trawling ex-office sites for tables. I've worked on several solid angled tables in the past.

    Anyway, cheers @ModSquid :thumb:
