Bit dark for photography, but I've had some wins from a charity shop including: a Dymo LabelManager PnP Wireless (battery was in backwards, turned it around, charged it up, and it's working a treat - three quid with an inch-width tape spool already in there!), Flight Unlimited II, Sim Town, Usborne Computer Guides: 101 Things to Do With Your Computer (1998), Illustrated Computer Dictionary for Dummies (2000), MP3! Second Edition (2000, and includes *FOUR* chapters on WinAmp and a CD-ROM in the back), and Reader's Digest How to Do Just About Anything on a Computer (2000, CD-ROM in the front!)

Oh, and a very battered first-edition of O'Reilly's Internet in a Nutshell (1997).

Oh, *and* an IDE CD-RW and an IDE DVD-RW.

    EDIT:
    And a PS/2 Microsoft Intellimouse!

I just got the remarkable 2 a few months ago and now they announce a replacement… <incoherent grumbling>

But… plus ça change, I guess. You can’t keep waiting for the next model before buying because there will always be a next model…

Not technically a replacement - they're selling both side-by-side. The Remarkable 2 is £399 with the standard marker or £449 with the Marker Plus; I've just spent £678(!) on the Remarkable Pro with its own Marker Plus and the cheapest folio case (not the Type Folio, I never use the one I've got for the Remarkable 2.)

You also can't use the Remarkable 2 Marker Plus with the Remarkable Pro, 'cos it's not passive EMR any more - it's an active pen, and charges when it's slapped on the side of the tablet. Annoyed with that, 'cos I was going to buy the basic marker and just swap pens...

No, I know it’s not technically a replacement, but it’s still irritating

And that sounds really crappy about the pen, tbh. I tried the marker once and immediately bought a Lamy Al-Star EMR pen instead (though I still use the remarkable nibs).

My daughter attended a ballet residential last week and we were informed she's ready for pointe.

She's over the moon, and I'm obviously proud of her, but also my latest purchase this morning was the first of many pairs of £80 shoes that will last ~20 hours :blah:

Congrats to Ms_Tad, that's a big moment, pointe is something else and still extraordinary to fathom. Not good for your feet long term.

Both my kids did ballet. Son stayed to Y8 and did a year at Royal Ballet School regional classes. Younger daughter went through to 18 and through the LAMDA and RAD grades. She then did a Foundation year in Musical Theatre and started an MT degree this time last year, but left due to continued fallout from glandular fever sadly.

She's started a teaching job back at home this term and will be teaching dance to 7-14 tear olds at the drama school she went through.

Good luck to her and enjoy seeing all that elegant performance.

Something clicked with ours a few years ago. She has been doing ballet since she was 3 (now 11), initially just as one of the many hobbies/activities that you throw at kids to to see what sticks. She's always loved it but it wasn't until a few years ago when she was... scouted I guess, for a place in a show by Northern Ballet that it really took a turn for the serious. Fitting that the first professional ballet she went to when she was tiny was also by Northern, and it was mental to see her on the stage at Theatre Royal in Notts. Since then she's done a bunch of auditions, a few different associate programs and residentials, and a couple shows - another one at Theatre Royal a couple months ago, and is starting training with Northern Ballet in a few weeks.

So, at some point in the last few years the response to the little girl saying "I'm gonna be ballerina when I grow up" has sort of shifted from "aww of course you are isn't that sweet" to "well yeah, obviously".

Shame about the glandular fever - that's a bitch :/
I think ours is being pretty realistic about what a career as a dancer really is like (and how it can all go sideways with injury/illness) - so she's thinking about teaching too, but also other "Plan B"s

Probably about 2 months ago in anticipation of the completion of the lounge, we bought a hard floor cleaner to help with all the crud that'd been trodden through the house and whatever had made it's way under the floor protectors.

As it turned out the floor protectors had done such a good job it basically just required a hoovering to collect what came off the top of the protectors. Only got round to using it Sunday evening after clearing the crud from the damp under-stairs cupboard. Did a fantastic job

Got all the crap up from that and whatever else was on the floors, dried quick, and walking round in bair feet the floor felt properly clean, cleaner than when I'd spent an age scrubbing and mopping it to death. Also did a bit of the rug in the dining room which is that really tight wound string type of material, that came up great too.
