Pretty f-ed off with keyboards rn tbh. I have had 0 luck.

About 4 months ago I had a bottle of vape liquid explode in my face. And into my brand new Keychron kb. I did my best, and it was fine. Until a week ago. Now it just spazzes the instance you plug it in.

I am loathe to dump another £100 into a keyboard. So, I dug out my old Hunstman Elite, as I am also sick of poxy small ones. Stripped it.



It's now been cleaned properly. The keys are worn heavily though. Very shiny.



So I got these.





My Alienware mouse also chose this moment to die again. The LEDs no longer work (not that I care, they were annoying) but now the clicks are not working. I know from faffing around a lot before this could be the driver but I really am not in the mood now. I have had it 7 years, that will do.

Was cheap. Again, not spending £80 on mice again they all die just as fast. I also got this.

250ml of berryaid all over me, my desk and my keyboard this weekend, thankfully the only damage appears to be one backlight LED on my Huntsman.

I was going to use it to get something newer, but after looking at keyboard prices decided I could live with it.

 

I would clean it with isoprop tbh. For some reason it was absolutely fine until the day before I went on holiday. It could be unrelated, but I doubt it.

 

Already tried, no difference, it might be totally coincidental and have a bath in 90% VG had nothing to do with it.

 

Well bugger. I got out the RGB wrist pad and realised stuff had been sitting on it. The leatherette was old, and was going rotten (as it does) and had peeled bad and looked jank.

Peeled it.



And fancied a change.



Should go nice with they key caps. Was only 6 quid too. I bought 12 cans of spray contact adhesive for a project then realised it wasn't suitable so yeah, I have tons of that

 

Oh yeah. I got this too.



I had my holiday last week. It was ace. However, every night they played PUBG and I could not, even though I had my NUC with me. So I got it. Will be great for testing and etc too. Was quite surprised actually. It was only £69.99 and when I ordered it I noticed it said "People frequently buy with..." a mini HDMI cable and two USB C. So I figured it would not come with any, but actually did some with all of the cables too. So I am glad I did not order £15 worth of cables.

Quality is very nice too. Great picture, but you do have to set up all of the cables or it only goes half as bright.

 

I was impressed with the portable display I bought, too. I bought this stand to go with it - it’s just big enough to accommodate the 16.1” screen…

 

I need a portable screen stand so that's going on the list

 

Been meaning to try and design a replacement mount for the screen. The clamp attaches to the stand with one of those “screw-on ball joint” thingies:



It might take a few prototypes to get it right, but I want to design something that attaches to the ball joint thingy but uses compact neodymium magnets to mount the screen instead of a spring-loaded clamp. Just another one of those things I haven’t got around to yet… although the lack of easy access to a 3D printer kinda puts the brakes on

I’ve also got a flight case I’ve been meaning to turn into a carrying case. There’s definitely room for the PC, screen, and stand, and hopefully there’ll be enough space for a keyboard & mouse. I’ve got the flight case and the pick & pluck foam… I just haven’t got around to doing it yet…

 

GOD DAMMIT.

The keys don't fit. The shells are too thick and catch on the bars for the opto mech switches ffs. I thought maybe it was just those keys so I tried my Miami keys. Nope. Space bar doesn't line up either. F RAZER.

There is however a thin silver lining. I just bought this for £19.99 on Amazon. Directly from Patriot.

Oh the excitement.... The old tumble dryer that came with the house finally £%*& the bed last week, and we need one - can't dry outside as aside from the lots of rain over the past week, my wife has too many allergies for that, she'll go getting all itchy. So, we had to buy a new one...



Went with a heat pump one this time as we may as well take advantage of the efficiency boost over the old vented one. Now I just have to look forward to installing it myself, that should be "fun" as it sits on a counter behind the "front door" (not the real front door, but it is the one we use and opens up straight into the utility room) and will probably be a good bit heavier than the old one.

But hey, it apparently has "smart wireless technology" - not really, it has NFC to a phone app for something or other that is probably never going to get used.

Now I just need to drill a drain hole through the wall at some point so that I won't need to continually empty the thing after each load.

It's all fun and exciting times here....

The smart stuff is actually useful, it lets you know how efficient the load was, what it used and when it is done, which is handy when it is somewhere remote you can't hear, as the programme time are sensor based and non of ours have ever taken as long as it says in the manual (different model but no doubt same principle)

Our Heat pump tumble dryer is the last piece of tech that properly impressed me, especially versus our old condensor thing, stuff got done much quicker, much drier, quieter, all whilst using a quarter of the power (max pull from socket is 500w) and bugger all heat leak into the room because its so damn efficient.

 

We switched to a heat pump dryer at the same time I stopped charging my car at work and the electricity bill balanced out with no change. The only downside for us is that our "utility area" gets down to zero degrees in the depths of winter so we need to bring it into the dining room for winter, and the compressor adds a fair bit of noise

 

Oh I am all excited NOW that it is in and on the counter. My wife neglected to let me know that the thing weighs 43kg.... I have not lifted that in years. I used to lift a LOT heavier, but we are talking 20 years ago for that. Got the app all setup and connected (after being asked 3 times about extended warranty care, and another 4 times reading very carefully to make sure I am ticking the opt out of all the marketing stuff...). Now I just need to finish working for the day and I shall put a load through it.

So far I am liking the drum size increase over the old one and the fact that the water drains into a clear container on the inside of the door, easy to see when full and all that, although I may hook up an external drain to outside at some point.

Would you mind reporting back how you get on? I only discovered this was a thing recently, and while it’s a low investment to try it out (already have a PSVR2), I don’t actually have much to speak of in terms of a PC capable of doing VR stuff, which raises that bar considerably.

 

Will do. Reports on reddit seem to indicate the two controllers can have issues when bluetooth pairing, so the setup can be a bit of a faff. Once it's sorted it works very well. With the oled screens and bump up in resolution and fov, I'm looking for a hopefully crisper display than a Quest 2. Must admit though, I'm looking forward to playing Horizon Call of the Mountain and GT7.

OK so an update on the CBD flower and hash. Fookin love it. IDK why, but I am getting quite high when I smoke it. Not like, totally monged out, but certainly a very warming relaxed feeling. This is most notable when I roll a neat weed joint with hash in.

However, what I do not like at all is how harsh the weed is. Which is a shame, as it is way more effective than the hash. So instead of buying the cheapest tat I could get my hands on I got this.



That is CBD crystals.



TBH with the £5 off it was only £29 shipped for a quarter which is only about £3 more than the other one I got. I've not been doing it every day as yeah I think I would do nothing all day, but every few days I have a joint. I also totally did not realise how little of it I would actually go through. I am only about 1/2 way through the weed and have only just opened the 7g of mango kush hash I got. Meaning I have used just over 3.5g of weed and 2g of hash in an entire month.

So it is also a lot fookin cheaper than I first thought too. Like, less than my coffee habit ffs.

The first hour is quite intense tbh. Like, wanting to go to sleep. Then after that it lasts for about 3 more hours of just feeling chilled and quiet. Ver nice.

 

Finally SATA SSDs are falling in price again after a big spike. A spike that took place when I emptied my bays of small little drives /roll eyes. So this has taken about 18 months rather than the 18 days I preferred.



Twelve. I am going ham, fully loaded. The great thing is they were less than 40 a pop, but, I got an additional 5% off for buying 12. So it was like, 448 or something for 12 drives. Not bad tbh. Talking of the server....

Ever since I built it it has been making a god awful racket now and then. I thought it was things going into the fans, it wasn't. I forgot that my hot swap bays have 40mm fans in the back. And they are crap, cheap fans that drone and rub. So, whilst I am there, 3 of these.
