The original plan was to get four and replace all my spinning rust. I'm sure I'll find something to fill them with...

10-12 days delivery it said. And it's finally... left the warehouse(!)

First week, I hadn't had a confirmation so I got in touch: "It's with the warehouse for shipping now." Great!
Second week, still nothing. "We're hoping to ship everything by the end of the week."
Start of the third week, nowt. "We're on schedule to get it to you by the 5th of October." That's... not on schedule, Remarkable.

Today, a message from DHL saying it's at a Chinese warehouse and will, hopefully, be with me on Tuesday of next week. Better than October, at least!

    I bought an AMD thingy....

It's, well, no bigger than the ARC A750..

And it compliments my full "blackout" build..

(Yes, I know the back fan is grey but it can't be seen with the side panel on).

New GPU is a 7900 GRE with the OEM / Founders / Reference / Whatever AMD call it cooler.

So far, I am extremely impressed with it. It is noticeably quieter than the A750 and has zero coil whine (that I can hear anyway). After a brief bit of testing in Outlaws it also overclocks quite nicely. Got it ~ 2400 Core, 2600 memory with an undervolt to 970mV which gives a noticable 10-15% performance uplift in game.

    Very pleased.. :)

Now I just need to get my code sorted for Space Marines 2 and I will be shooting anything that moves as a walking tank in no time.:clap:

    Tablet get!

The new model has enhanced security, by which I mean the SSH server (which logs you in as the only user on the system: root(!)) is disabled by default. Enabling it, under the moniker "developer mode," triggers this scary warning:

    panik.jpg

Mate, the only reason I'm even turning it on is 'cos you won't release a Linux desktop client and your web client limits me to files under 100MB...

(I'm not too worried: it's protected by a password, and even after you enable the server it's only accessible via the physical USB port. Easier to guess the six-digit PIN!)

Miofive front and rear dashcam - wanted this anyway and it’s on a 50% off flash deal at the moment, down from £200 to £100

Thermalright AXP90-X47 Full Copper - supposedly more performant than my NH-L9i and less of a complete pig to mount than the Alpenfohn Black Ridge which doesn’t fit my motherboard

Noctua NF-A9x14 chromax.black - will replace the fan on the AXP90

Noctua NA-FD1 Fan duct kit - I was originally going to buy this for the L9i, to bridge the gap between the fan and side panel of the Dan A4 case, but it might be handy for the AXP90-X47 as well

    MSI "Ventus 2X" 4070 Super

Yeah, yeah, I know... I know the state the GPU market is in and how comparitively poor Nvidia is in terms of value... But if you try to wait for a "better time" to upgrade then you'll never get anything upgraded - there's always going to be a faster model, a newer generation, and so on... I had an unexpected bonus, the money was sat in my account, it's been a long time since I had any upgrades, and my 3070Ti is starting to show its age in newer games like Horizon Forbidden West... so... f' it.

But, you ask, why the MSI card and not the much more highly regarded Asus Dual card that's only £10 more? Well, because my case can fit a GPU up to 45mm wide: the Asus Dual card is 49.6mm wide whereas the MSI card is only 43mm wide... Plenty of other AIO cards would have fit - PNY, Zotac, Inno3D, Palit, etc - but out of all of them the only brand I've owned before is MSI.

Good to see the Dan A4 getting a GPU boost @Byron C .
Certainly more grunt than the 1080 I had in there before

Dual slot only does limit things a little, but it’s such a compact case that I really don’t want to part with it…

It’ll be the CPU that starts to become the limiting factor before too long, but hopefully I’ve still got plenty of life in the current platform. Gaming really is my most intensive workload these days so hopefully the 12400F can manage for a while longer yet.

I was travelling back from the US yesterday morning but Mrs_Tad graciously waited in the queue to pre-order a PS5 Pro... no luck on the 30th anniversary edition but I won't hold that against her too much.

And this was just delivered, almost forgot about it since it was ordered a month ago

I was going to sell one of the PS5s when the Pro arrives but now thinking about it maybe this is a sign it needs a new home. You can waterproof a controller right?
