Finally got around to putting this in the desktop: works fine, despite having been shipped with no padding.

Can't actually remember what I needed the DVD drive for back when I discovered the old one was broken, tho'...

Went for the LG FWY916WBTN1, Washer Dryer, 11kg/6kg Load. With gift cards, and John lewis price matching AO, it worked out to be £608 with a 2 hour delivery slot! I can't wait to marvel at is cavernous capacity!

Mines about to kick the bucket but the (literal) sounds of it. If you find the time, could you tell me what you think of this when you have had a few washes? Such as noise, ease of use etc? say It would be much appreciated. Thanks either way.

Monitor upgrades! Had fancied a qd-oled ultrawide, but fearful of screen burn for excel I went with a qd-va panel instead.

All the bells and whistles, 65w pass-through ideal for the work laptop and can ditch the dell dock from the desk. Gonna need to make room as I also got a new second monitor so I could pass my old one to Mrs crap and I have all the screen for spreadsheets, and one of normal ratio for doing stuff on teams

Same gen/series as the ultrawide (GM blah-blah-blaah), so should line up perfectly.

You have my condolences on having to use Teams...

Privacy/security concerns aside, Slack & Zoom is an infinitely better user experience than Teams. Especially when you're on a Mac and, four years after launch, there is still no support for hardware-accelerated video encode/decode on Apple Silicon in Teams... Nice, high-res external mirrorless camera going via a Camlink 4K; beautifully pristine video footage in Zoom, absolutely mutilated in Teams...

I hate Teams with a burning passion that I can scarce describe.

It's far far worse than just teams. Add in Citrix and a sprinkling of SharePoint, and you have a recipe for a nightmare workflow.

Are you OK? I know it can be hard, but I think you need to reach out to someone for help. You shouldn't have to go through this, workplace torture is very much illegal.

Order cancelled, buyers remorse, fear of castration, current GPU only just coping with current res, and after making a list of everything that I need to do in the house (new roof and guttering, board loft, new carpet on stairs and bedrooms, decorate bedrooms, clear garden, redo render on back of house, build decking, replace fence on left side) and with the consideration of starting a family, need to prioritise real world needs, not pastime wants.

Somehow, a handbag worth more than my first car.

My wife has clearly learned from one of my tricks... birthday shopping for her and she started by eyeing up a handbag worth more than my second car, conceded it was way too expensive, and found a "cheaper" one.

Its very nice of course, and I suppose it will last longer than many of my AV purchases of similar value, so I couldn't really fight it too much. Just a little bit blindsided by the upper echelons of handbags.

So today I got 4 rather ugly, heavy dinner plates from Amazon. I had ordered my partner a late Christmas gift and got a message in work today to say a very large package had been left.

    Aaaaand this is what I had actually ordered;

Ooof, trying to understand the kind of prices things like handbags and shoes (although I understand that more) go for can be eye popping.

Thankfully, if I bought my OH a handbag in the car buying price bracket she'd just hit me with it and send me back to the shop to return it

    Thermalright AXP90 X47 Copper - Amazon
This is for a low profile / HTPC build I'm making for when I need to access a stream the shield won't work with or needs adblock. Also considering using it as a Jellyfin server.

I have one of these, it's a solid little cooler. Does a much better job of keeping the temps of an i5-12400F under control than the Noctua NH-L9i I previously used.

The fan can get a little noisier than a Noctua NF-A9 at high speeds; cooling performance is apparently better with the stock Thermaltake fan (not verified that myself), but it's trivial enough to swap in a Noctua if the noise bothers you. Besides, if you're going super compact MiniITX then the proxmity of case vents to the fan has a bigger impact to "fan noise" than the fan itself. A fan duct kit can help with that, as well as helping ensure it gets fresh air from outside the case.
