    I love it!

Not too long ago, I got the rarely seen 2 button variant of this Genius mouse, simply for the fact it meant my Amiga and 486 could have similar mice :hehe:

I don't know what I'd do with that big trackball, maybe good for CAD back in the day?

I've used trackballs for pretty much my entire computing life, right back to the Commodore 64. (I didn't have a pointing device for the Spectrum before it...)

    I'm currently using this:

    upload_2025-1-25_22-23-33.png

Kensington Slimblade. Tempted to upgrade to the newer wireless one, though, 'cos the left-click's getting a little vague on this one. (Its predecessor did the same, but I was able to get that one replaced under warranty with this 'n.)

It really appeals to me but I can only imagine it would take all those years of muscle memory to be really comfortable and confident using it daily and probably quite a struggle for a mouse-muggle. (albeit thinkpad nipple fan)

It am arrive! Unsurprisingly, it's rollers and encoders so SUPER NOISY and slow. More surprisingly is that those aren't left, middle, and right buttons; they're left, hold-left, and right. The hold-left button acts like you've held down the left mouse button, so that you can drag-and-drop without having to actually hold it down.

That's great for accessibility, but... I was going to use this with an Acorn Archimedes emulator. There's a lot of middle-clicking on an Archimedes... Hmm.

    @David @stephen0205

Here you go both, just installed the PTM7950 now. Not the easiest to work with but thats only really down to trying to get the plastic sheets off it. It was in the fridge for about 25 mins before I applied it.

and just for the hell of it, 119% power target, 22 degrees ambient and "stealth" fans:

Really, really pleased with that, would highly recommend. I bought mine from here on ebay (not affiliated or anything). I hear its supposed to get better with a few heat cycles too so will keep an eye on things.

In that article I linked, there is clear evidence of burn-in. Looks more than decent, that stuff.

Wow, thats actually mental how well it looks like it works. I had a gander at buying it the other night, saw alot of people making comments about buying it but getting fake versions of it, which i thought was also mental. But well done man that is some result. Need to keep that in mind for a laptop :)

Took it to bits. Amazingly clean inside - doubt this thing's been used more than half an hour since manufacture. Gave my ball a rub (fnarr-fnarr) and rubbed a bit of grime off the rollers. It's got optical encoders, as expected - on the underside of a PCB which has been welded onto the plastics. Thanks, Traxsys. Hope they never need cleaning or replacement...

What I didn't see, sadly, is a handy jumper or DIP switch or something which turns the hold-left button into a middle button. Worse, the buttons are marked on the PCB as "SWL," "SWR," and "SWM" - meaning it is a middle button, it's just that the firmware's programmed for left-hold instead. Not something I can fix, that!

No chance of remapping it in software, either, as it doesn't show as a distinct button:

    Code:
        state 0x2000, button 1, same_screen YES
        state 0x2100, button 1, same_screen YES
        state 0x2000, button 1, same_screen YES
        state 0x2100, button 1, same_screen YES
The first transition is pushing and releasing the real left button, the second is pressing the middle button twice - it shows up as if I'd pressed and held the left button then let it go. Boo-urns!

    EDIT:
Oh, and the reason it's so noisy is 'cos there's knack-all in that plastic case - the wrist-rest bit is entirely hollow. Stick a bunch of foam in there and it'd be a lot quieter, I reckon.

Our lowball bid for the upgrade of our flight tickets to Copenhagen were accepted.

Even though the Air France lounge in Frankfurt's terminal 2 is definitely nothing to write home about, free food & drinks as well as being away from the unwashed masses was worth the extra bit of money.

Now, I'll dare trying the wine selection. The quality of everything else in here is mediocre at best, but there's at least one bottle of wine that looks decent. Fingers crossed...

Bought this for something very special that I'll probably have a few months to wait for.
WireView pro reverse, come with a sensor that you place between the gpu wires to keep a eye on temps.

Dry January means nothing to me, hardly drink alcohol at all now. Never set out to stop alcohol, just slowly drifted away from it over the last 30 years.
