A tiny Netgear 5-port switch because the WiFi does not reach the upstairs in the new rental house. Luckily, the house was built with WFH in mind. Every room has one RJ45 socket in the wall, all patched up downstairs where the FTTH arrives.

My trusty FritzBox covers the downstairs area with perfect coverage (the full 275 Mbit down in all corners), but the ceiling seems to be made of pure metal. If I stand directly above the WiFi router, I have no connection at all.

Additionally, I got a WiFi repeater to ensure full coverage outdoors, for when I want to work from the garden.

These posts would probably be useful in a Viture headset thread

Yup that is why I thought I'd try it is as the number of positions I seem to end up folding my self into to use my 3 in one PC for a gaming session This bad boy which is ultimately quite weighty, though same issues with the AOKZOE A1Pro which is steam deck size, you kind of hunch over or I do anyway.

Its not with out usability issues I didn't consider of course once you are using these glasses and the main display goes to sleep to save battery, the touch screen of course does not work for navigation if in simple mirror mode and perhaps where the neckband and its hand tracking feature can help, I can switch my joypad to mouse mode so it is not tragic, but not slick.

I see there is a magnetic snap on for corrective lens use, less than £20, though how much it cost to put lens in them I don't know.

I only use so far in a dimly lit room, but I can see our very bright LED corner light through it so it is not perfect but as I have this reflection in my TV also my mind does some very good deletion of it :D so yes covers might be needed in very bright environments.

    Yes, again!

I've been hunting for an alternative, and... there basically aren't any. There's a gulf between the blade-on-arm and rotary-cutter guillotines, where "heavy duty" means anything up to 15 sheets(!), and industrial stuff which can do a whole ream of paper but starts at a grand. Plus VAT.

This is half the price of the nearest (also Chinese OEM) equivalent, and I really don't want to spend twice as much on this. I'm already £225 in the hole for the new scanner.

Same seller, but a different listing - slightly more expensive, weirdly, but Ali's got an offer on with a voucher code that took eight quid off, so it came out 70p cheaper all told. Wonder if I'll have any luck this time around?

And break the grand tradition of meandering and off-topic bit-tech forum threads?! How dare you make such a suggestion, sir?! Harrumph!

    :hehe:

The UK partner for this is a company called Lensology, who’ll charge you £80 for the insert with your prescription.

Not ruinously expensive, but IMO not an “eh, why not” price either. And it wouldn’t help for the occasional time when I use an Oculus Rift S headset, because a Viture lens insert obviously wouldn’t fit in a Rift S .

That’s why I tried contact lenses again. I can use the same contacts with the Viture headset, the Rift S, any other HMD I choose, the sunglasses I wear when I’m in the car or on the bike, etc…

Honestly, it’s not much of an issue at home.

In the office, however, it’s an entirely different ball game…! The darkest lens shade is usually just about ok, but it can be super distracting seeing the rest of the office behind what I’m working on. Plus it means I don’t freak my co-workers out by making it look like I’m leering at them when in reality I’m just looking at a different virtual screen :hehe:

Halfords Autocentres. FFS, I should have known better.

I book and pay for four new tyres. Over a week later, the day before I'm due to drop off the car for fitting, they call and say we can't get your tyres in time. They had ten days to get them in.

So the offer me the older model of the same tyre, which are in stock. I had looked at them when I was researching before ordering - they're worse than the Gen3 tryes in every regard, especially in fuel economy, so I said no, I looked at them and I want the tyres that I ordered - the Gen3. Ooh, it's gunna take at least another week - we can just refund your payment if this isn't suitable. Yeah, no, I'll wait. We'll have to get them transferred from our Newcastle depot, which will cost an additional £66 and take a week. Yeah, it'll costs Halfords an extra £66, mate, not me. Order them in and call me back to arrange fitting. No wonder they wanted to brush me off with a refund.

I get a call this morning - your tyres are in, are you able to drop your car in today. Wait, the Gen3s are in? I thought it wasn't going to be before the middle of next week? OK, I work less than a mile away, no problem.

Got a call later to pick up the car, during my lunch break, so I hurried down there and picked it up. Parked up at work and took a moment to look at the new tyres - Goodyear Vector 4Season Gen 2. FFS.

Of course they're all - Ooh I don't understand how that could have happened. More like, eh fit them, the muppet won't notice.

The car is going back tomorrow morning, I can only hope that they had a recycling pickup and my old tyres are gone, just to put them deeper in the ****.

I will not be leaving there without an apology and a significant concession.

Nope! Out of stock, apparently, and won't be back in until April sometime. I'm really eager to crack on with this now, but I don't want to keep doing the cutting manually - so it's time to throw money at the problem.

Don't let the logo fool you, I've seen the exact same model on AliExpress - but this one's in an Amazon warehouse in the UK and will be with me on Tuesday. Gets better reviews than the Vevor one, and can do up to 400 sheets (allegedly.)

Also very nearly a hundred quid more expensive, sadly, and it's a Marketplace seller so none of the usual Amazon easy refund stuff if it breaks. Crossing my fingers... again.

Billionaire owned marketplaces suddenly not supplying guillotines, not surprising.

I've tried BlackCircles twice. The first time was great so, next time I wanted tyres I went to their site again. Selected the tyres, selected the fitter and then paid. Later when the confirming email arrived, it indicated a different fitter, much further away but, stayed with it. Seemed OK when I went there, until it seemed like they were taking a very long time. Eventually the manager comes to talk to me, tells me they have sheared-off the locking wheel bolt on the first wheel they tried and, were unable to undo it so, would not continue. They said they would fit the tyres if I got it fixed...

Our local garage took four hours to get the remains of the bolt out, including having to grind down a socket so it would go into the recess. They only charged me £100 as I'm a regular customer, including replacing all the locking bolts with standard ones. Apparently, PSA (pre Stellantis) locking wheel bolts are the worst in the business and, nobody steals alloy wheels anymore. I got them to do the tyres...

BlackCircles, Kwik-Fit, Halfords, They can shove themselves up where the sun doesn't shine!

You're not going to believe this, but... it was supposed to be delivered this lunchtime on Royal Mail Tracked 24. It didn't turn up. The tracking, weirdly, hasn't been updated since it hit Leeds MC yesterday - even though I got an email this morning with a two-hour delivery timeslot.

I'm oh for three. How can it be this difficult to buy a sodding guillotine?!

Fingers crossed it turns up tomorrow, I guess.
