Some daffodils and a 4pack of Red Stripe. Odd combination but I'm in a somewhat celebratory mood - see Life Is Good thread.

Most of the bits from my splurge have finally arrived, PC overkill mode. Notable is the lack of GPU…….might have to buy some random 5090 at this point, I was hoping to get one already watercooler adorned than have to do it myself as I can't be bother but I guess I should just crack on.

    AMD 9950X3D
    [IMG]

Gigabyte X870E AORUS XTREME AI TOP bit OTT but dual 10G NICs onboard and as my current dual NIC keeps overheating and dropping one port from 10 to 1G, I thought I’d try this and remove my janky fan addition, convergence Cheesecake. (until one part fails that is :D )

And some RAMs, my last GSKILL served me well so

    Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5-6000 CL26-36-36-96 1.45V 64GB (2x32GB)

Torn between latency and bandwidth as I have the V cache probably neither makes a big difference, I guess it is all the same memory die so I figure the chips that can do the lower latency are probably better (though Gskill royals do it at lower voltage so no doubt better binned but you have to stop somewhere ) so I guess I can probably up it to 8Ghz anyway with some tweakings, the weeks of fun I am going to have, who needs a GPU :D

For what the garage will charge for doing my spark plugs I was able to buy the parts and tools to do it myself. Including another set of plugs for the wife's car. And now I have the tools to do them every time. I do use garages for most jobs as a mixture of can't be bothered and modern cars being a PITA to work on. But for what is a relatively simple job this was a no brainer.

Wouldn't it be better to book the hotel around the same time as the flight and airport parking?

Table, chairs, a little stool, and some cheap outdoor lights from IKEA for the garden.

Working while looking at a sunny garden, can't wait.

Can I suggest a length of garden hose?

Unless you have a spark plug socket with a little bit of rubber in to grab the plug it can slip out of the socket.

Using a length of garden hose you can push it onto the plug, insert it into the engine and find the thread before pulling it off and tightening.

Half the time the little rubber bit in those sockets stays on the plug when you take the socket out. I've got a long magnetic one (stop sniggering in the back) which is brill.
Bit of hose is very useful though, I've got a bit of silicone hose in my toolbox for Rover V8s, stops you getting burnt on the manifolds and gives you a bit of wiggle-ability.

Can confirm. Bought some magnetic ones and got rid of all the rubber ones, much better.

Interested in the graphic novel. We all know the book is great, but how well did they adapt it?

I recently bought a graphic novel adaptation of The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Haven't started yet, but looks promising.
