For the few hot days of the year, I was told by my significant other that we needed this.

Not purchases, but another kind gift from the father-in-law:

All complete-in-box. Heimdall's suffering from water damage - you can see how the print's coming away from the card and rippling - but I've brushed it out and doused it in isoprop, so it should live. The contents were still in their plastic bag, thankfully!

In case you're wondering why the tiny Arthur was a whopping £35: it's a CD-ROM game. Which is weird, 'cos his Archimedes doesn't have a CD-ROM drive...

Needed to replace my microwave at the weekend.
Remember those microwave/grill combo things? They're done. The new shiny now seems to be microwave/air fryer combo things.

This is weird yet... wonderful? Something about a whole roast chicken being pulled out a microwave (even if it is also an airfryer) just doesn't seem right.

Similar story here - it is rather good though!

Cool. We have two airfryers and we use them alll the time, and our microwave/combi has seen better days. This would allow us to get rid of the smaller airfryer.

Ooh, let us know how you get on.

When our microwave died we just didn't replace it.

A microwave/air fryer combi may be a good idea seeing as the OH keeps banging on about them.

Back when microwaves were new and shiny, there were recipe books for microwave cuisine. Including whole roast chicken. It cooks fine, but remains a very pale colour... so the advice was to paint it with gravy browning after cooking.

    No, really.

I believe as a child there was a copy of that book in the house. Or at the very least one like it.

My wife (a retired chef) remembers the gravy browning painting trick, also, put the chicken under the grill to make the skin crispy.

A directional USB-C-USB-C O.MG Cable to go with the USB-A-Lightning O.MG cable. Those things are stupid cool, and I want to fiddle with the phone side

Nat's What I Reckon does some sterling cooking videos involving the Microwave. They're not positive for the microwave, but they sure are entertaining.

Back on the air fryer topic - bought a Ninja Crispi recently and it's an absolute godsend. Anytime we go away in the UK it's coming with me as makes self catering with coeliac disease quite a lot easier.

Had to look that one up…

Looks like an excellent security research tool. All of us here are probably well aware of the usual security caveats around unknown devices & cables, but like simulated phishing campaigns I can see the usefulness when it comes to educating others.

I’m not terribly concerned about it being an actual attack vector, especially the Lightning cable; iOS requires you to unlock the device and explicitly allow USB accessories to connect. No doubt people might find ways around that, but that’s part of the point of these tools - to find and address vulnerabilities.

Fortunately the target isn't necessarily the phone (although the direction USB-C one does do that), rather the computer. Obviously I'm a hamfisted amateur, but even I can bash out some encrypted powershell commands to grab a longer command (faster than typing out the longer command from the cable directly) that'll do just about whatever you can make powershell do and email the output. In theory they can work as keyloggers too, but I didn't have a Lightning socket keyboard, so I'm curious to see how versatile the USB-C version is in that regard.

For some reason no one at work trusts USB devices from me anymore..

They're not cheap, especially for a bit of curiosity, but since I do work with them I can claim them on my taxes, which takes some of the sting out. And they're slightly less clunky than the Rubber Ducky.

After waiting too long for a waterforce 5090 I decided to just go ahead and get a 5080 as I wanted to put the rest of my bits together with a new GPU

Palit 5080 gaming Pro, on the cheaper side of 5080s fingers crossed it is not rubbish, should hopefully cope with 4k a bit better than my 3080Ti.
