Fiio Snowsky Disc digital audio player



As much as I really want to keep my MiniDisc player(s) going, a fully solid-state DAP really is a lot more convenient.

Had my eye on these for a while. They launched without support for gapless playback, but there was a suggestion from Fiio that this would be added in a firmware update. That finally landed at the start of this month, so time to take the plunge.

I’ve only actually used it for about maybe 20 minutes, but it seems capable enough so far. I need to listen to more complex & detailed music to get a better idea of the sound quality, something like Devin Townsend Project where there are layers upon layers of sound. 4.4mm balanced output is a nice to have, even though I have absolutely no need for it

The bigger issue now is that it really is time I cleaned up my music collection. I’ve been procrastinating on setting up beets, because it seems like it needs a lot of manual config and plugin setup to really get the best out of it, but it might finally be time to bite that bullet.

Sadly, both were out of stock so instead I came out with K-2S0 and Battle Droid with STAP (at a 30% discount for the 2nd one for being a "LEGO Insider"!)

 

Been on the fence about getting K-2S0. Although the minifig alone is worth getting the set for.

Did absolutely no research in advance; finding good information on the internet means wading through bucketloads of sponsored or AI-generated "review" or "group round-up" articles that $searchEngine will try to feed me. But we've had Meaco fans for years after a recommendation on here many years ago, and the brand has earned a lot of trust.

Been meaning for a long time to get myself a drill press, and initially I was looking at a smaller one for model-making related tasks... but the general consensus among hobbyists is to get a decent quality "proper" bench drill and avoid the overpriced hobby jobbys, which have crippling limitations.

So - this was a Gumtree find, and the seller was happy with £80, which IMO is an absolute steal. Clarke Metalworker CDP401B, only used lightly for woodworking, some light surface rust, and damn near immaculate inside - the belts look like they have just come out of the factory. The quill is SOLID, 3-16mm chuck, and the whole thing weighs over 50kg (which proved somewhat challenging, but I did eventually get it into the boot of my car, lol).

Suffice to say, this should serve me well for many, many years.

 

Bargain mate gratz.

I have both read and watched the installation process 15 times, and labelled all my wires. All ready for a perfectly smooth procedure... tomorrow.
