There'll be in that safe place you told yourself would be easy to find when you put them there

Joined the Steam Frame waitlist. Hope I don't get pushed too far down the list when they shuffle it on Thursday!

Right, try again. I've been refunded for the missing 3D printer (no thanks to Evri) so have ordered another. Same as before. Although £15 cheaper as I found a better discount code.

I've ordered some silicone hoses and decent clips to replace the charge pipes on the car. I haven't figured out yet what's causing the turbo stalling when throttle is wide open and this was the next suggestion (that's also relatively cheap and able to be done by a pretend amateur mechanic i.e. me)

After ranting about having to pay VAT on imported goods, it's only fair that I share what I bought. For the uninformed, it's a limited edition 1:50 diecast scale model of a Liebherr LTM 1750 in Johnson & Young livery, and in due course it'll be part of a diorama that I'm putting together. It's an absolutely stunning model (sorry for the crappy phone pic - better shots are sure to follow). Limited numbers of these models are produced in company liveries, and this one really I caught my eye, so I'm dead chuffed I now have it!

Not nearly enough zip ties for a pretend amateur mechanic job.

I'm told you can select a different shipping address to the billing one.

Well the U6 LR finally died. So I picked up a used u6 enterprise, only one device in my house that can actually use the 6ghz just now, but so much better than the u6 lr was, tv is actually watchable in the far room now, pretty sure my lr was dying for about a year now. But pretty happy with this.

And so my attempts at dis-enshittifying my phone begin…

    TTfone TT990 - a flip-phone running Google-free Android 14.

Aurora “app store” out of the box, but others are available - as is, of course, installing directly from the APK.

There are only a couple of applications I actually need on a phone. Everything else can be relegated to a second device that can be left at home when not needed. There are a few more that would be useful, but might not be essential, so I’ll be dual-wielding my iPhone while I figure that out.

If it works out the way I want, then the “second device” iPhone will be replaced with an iPad mini. If it doesn’t work out… well… it’ll be a lot harder to be terribly upset about the situation when I haven’t spent £1,000+ on a phone

How excited can a person get about high-precision measuring tools? Got myself a lovely little Verdict dial test indicator on ebay for £10 (it's worth £115 new) and within 5 minutes I was able to diagnose the minor wobble problem with my drill press.

The quill and arbour are concentric and have negligible runout, and the same is true at the shank of the installed drill bit. The culprit is the sleeve of the chuck itself, which has at least 0.1mm of runout, and the deviation is causing the whole thing to vibrate. I already bought another chuck because I wanted something a bit smaller anyway, but it's nice to know exactly what was causing the wobble, and there's probably a way to correct it (currently beyond my ken).

Now I desperately need to find other things to measure with this dial. I NEEDS IT. Any suggestions?

    Oh, and this:

I had this on my wish list years ago but didn't pick it up for whatever stupid reason. If you ask me how much I paid for it, the answer is "yes".

Looking forward to reading it finally.
