Err, you posted that as I was editing my post mate - read the "reason for editing" on my last.

I thought from a first glance that it was another DAC like the Aune one I linked to, then I noticed the valve.

You do know Jameson's & Bushmill's come from the same distillery in Middleton, County Cork (I've taken the tour).

In other news, I've had a rather expensive weekend:-

    @Unicorn and smc8788:

    Thanks for the info guys.

So, given the fact that you need high quality audio files to make the most of it, it's probably not going to make much difference for gaming, right? I've got a pair of Beyerdynamic MMX 300s - I assume they are of a good enough quality to take advantage of an amp if I did get one?

You probably won't notice any difference for gaming, no. It's more of an audiophile thing.

That headset looks very similar to the DT880/DT990 but I'm not sure how it sounds compared to those. I briefly owned a pair of DT880's in the 250 ohm flavour and they were pretty hard to drive, so they definitely benefited from a good amp. The DT880's also come in a 32 ohm version like the MMX 300 but from what I've heard they're every bit as hard to drive as the higher impedance versions.

I see. I'll delay for now then and probably get one down the road when money isn't an issue.

Great posts from smc8788 and Unicorn, cheers mates:)

I definitely love the amp, it really makes my AKG shine, and they're notoriously hard to drive properly. Vincent makes them sound smooth, warm, and really help with bass which, to my ear K 601 lacks almost completely unless heavily eq'd, all the while retaining the crystal-clear mids and highs AKG is known for.

K 601's doesn't sound too good out of the box IMHO, I was actually seriously considering to sell them and get some other headpones, but now I'm not giving them up, ever.

Currently I'm using my Xonar DX as a source, which will obviously have to go at some point. Arcam rDAC looks promising without breaking the bank, but atm I'm still enjoying the amp to the fullest.

    EA23WMi NEC 23" Monitor. Coming from a glossy 20" Nec 20WGX2, I really hope I won't be disappointed with the 23" NEC.

You've got that slightly wrong... or at least only half the story. First of all, it's spelt Midleton. The distillery in Cork makes the grain whiskey which Bushmills (no 's) use to make their blended range... which is "Bushmills Original" and "Black Bush" and the rest of their range is produced and distilled at The Old Bushmills Distillery in Bushmills, County Antrim. I know this because we have a house up the road from it, and I've taken the tour several times. The grain Whiskey which they use for the blended whiskey is only the first part of the production process... the addition of the single malt at Bushmills is what gives it the flavour it has.

Also, grats on the Insignia. Health to enjoy mate, Dad just bought an SRi one about a month ago - fantastic car :thumb:

LED TVs (amd monitors) ARE LCDs dammit!

OLED, on the other hand is the next step, but that's a few years in the future.

Not quite. An LCD TV might be standard LCD, whereas another tv might be an EDGE Led - Lcd tv. I.e with led side lighting. Lower power consump, brighter picture etc.

And then you get back LED LCD screens as well - i.e. with the LEDs arranged directly behind the LCD matrix rather than around the edge. Even better brightness and contrast but a bit thicker and more expensive.

Overall, it's far too complicated for the Joe public :sigh:

:duh: I should know how to spell Midleton by now, I have family in Ladysbridge!:duh:
Thanks for the correction, I haven't been there for a few years now. Maybe time to visit next summer.

Re: Insignia - this is also an SRi, a 160PS (158BHP) diesel, with factory-fitted satnav/iPod dock.
This means an iPod can be controlled from the steering wheel!
A friend of mine already has one of these, and he says the only thing it won't do is put the album cover on the satnav screen.

Next purchase is likely to be a pre-loved iPod Classic to dock with it.:thumb:
