Well ive just gone and got my latest upgrades. A 580 gtx to replace my crossfire 4870's. Loads better better performance, less power draw, less noise and hopefully driver issues will be a thing of the past. Ok so that seems to make sense. But i've also gone and got another 6 gigs of ram "whats that for the wife asks" umm umm.... Ya, got the feeling i've got a little trigger happy there. A ram drive maybe, no page file..... But really what can this be used for? besides e-peen
The main reason that you get 6GB of memory in an LGA1366 build is for triple channel. 2x2GB is traditional, so just tack on another 2GB stick and you're good to go. The only other way to get triple channel with less memory is to go 3x1GB which isn't very much memory =/ (3x512MB is even worse ). 6GB can be used if you like to multitask while you work. Scenario: You're bored, but you wanna keep working on some project that you're doing. You decide hey what the heck I'll just open up some games. You load up your favorite RPG (or mmo) and start playing that at the same time you work. Then you get to some point in your RPG (or mmo) where you need to wait for something. Bored, you open up some MMOFPS game and play a round while waiting for that. Now you get the awesome idea for a photoshop project from that game and you decide to open photoshop and get the basic idea laid out. Back to the RPG, you don't feel like playing so you just leave it open to chat with your friends there. When you get bored you either do another round in the FPS or you work more on the photoshop project. Now you need some help with something in one of those apps so you also open up an internet browser and in that browser you pop out like 5 tabs. 6GB's most helpful when you do a lot of rendering as that's a memory hogging operation. But it can also come in handy if you find yourself with like 9 different applications open at the same time. Otherwise 6GB sits in there to make triple channel work ^^.
oh ur adding 6 gigs on top of 6 gigs x_x'''. The only way to justify that is if you do heavy rendering work... a lot of it... But heck if you didn't spend your money on that, what would you have bought?
