I'm on the lookout for a software managed fan controller that doesn't require temp sensor leads snaking all over the case. Something that will manage the fans based purely on reported CPU/GPU temperature in Realtemp or similar.

Is there such a device, anyone?

    Thanks
    Dave

Ive just sorted out the majority of my fans being controlled by speedfan on mobo headers, just a thought :)

I am looking that almost that kind of simplicity, but in a product that is manageable through software. I don't have enough headers for that anyway, and I'd be back to square one with fan wires snaking all over the place.

Thanks for the suggestion though :)

Possibly the Alphacool Heatmaster II. I'm waiting on a responce from there customer service as to whether it detects the CPU/GPU temps or does it solely on temp sensors.

This sounds like a job for an arduino! Although that would negate the lazy man requirement.

It has a shedload of sensor pins on the mainboard, but I assume you're asking them if it can work independently of the sensor wires?
Yeah, I had spotted that, but I'm not looking for the BigNG type controllers. Unless their software allows input from the CPU/GPU internal sensors. I was under the impression they only work with the sensor wires though.
The lazy man bit was only to avoid the buggeration of carefully routing each individual sensor wire and then possibly having to do it all over again if I change the mobo. I don't mind a spot of arduino work - but I'd more than likely be looking for a kit rather than winging it.

You could ask Parge about the BigNG as he uses one in his rig, but from reading his log on his recent build I don't think it does.

I did just that, about an hour ago. Tom always helps wherever he can and I agree with him that, for the money time and effort, I may as well spend a bit more on my next mobo and get a decent Asus model with plenty of headers and use the Fan Xpert2 software.

Woody mentioned mobo-based control early on in the thread, but I had no idea how much the fan control on Asus boards had evolved - so it may just be worth running wires around the mobo afterall.

Cheers all, I appreciate the input. :thumb:

I was really impressed with fan xpert2 when i got my m5g. It will test your fans to find there min and max operating rpm and then you can set a fan profile up. It does display gpu temp but not sure if you can set that as the temperature for the fan profile graph. will have a look tonight and let you know.

Well, bigNG has software sensors, but unfortunately the only current app supported by it is Speedfan. aquaero 5 has software sensors too, for now it supports only OHM.

If i were you, i would probably buy aquaero 5 LT if the budget allows it.

    Just spotted this on SPCR:
Also, the software only seems to be available on the very top end boards, an only the Gene V in the MATX lineup (I think). I was ok with the idea of coughing an extra £20 or so for a higher spec board, but not an extra £60 for a Gene V.

Can anyone comment on the Fan Xpert+ software? It is at least available on the boards within my price range - otherwise, I'll have to stick with my manual fan controller.

+1 for the aquaero 5. It does use external sensors, unless it has changed recently (I've not updated in a while) you have to have hwmonitor open in the background.

I've got the xt and love it!

Only thing is if you have a lot of fans you will need a power adjust 2 to add to the channels. I'm currently running 11 fans off mine and then pump from a power adjust.

I guess this all depends on your budget.

Not looking for anything as extensive (or expensive) as an aquaero 5.

    There is nothing cheaper unfortunately.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case.

I'll have to dig out some stuff to sell, and increase the budget to include the Gene V.

I've used the £130 Asus P8Z77-V on a couple of builds and that has Fan Xpert 2. I was really impressed by how much customisation was available.

Yeah, one of the few boards it's available for. Unfortunately, once you start looking at mATX, the options narrow rapidly.

This is the part of the manual from the P8Z77M Pro about the Fan Xpert+ feature:

It looks very similar to the Fan Xpert 2 software I used.
