I am going to be re-fitting my parallel LCD soon, but want to add some buttons that will act as quick buttons for things like WinAmp, etc...Does anyone know how I can wire up some buttons to an old PS2 keyboard controller chip and then get that to interface via a Com port? Thanks... Tom - Viper Group http://www.viperhardware.co.uk
Welcome to the boards. Since you said parallel LCD, I think you're out of luck. Matrix Orbital makes some derial LCDs that have the keyboard controller on them, that's part of the added value (and expense) with serial units. It's done on the serial units with a microcontroller, so unless you're equipped to fab a daughterboard and program a microcontroller to read the keyboard, I think you're out of luck.
Thanks Thanks for the information...I was hoping there would be a way to wire in an old keyboard controller, but alas. Anyway this looks like it needs a re-think. Much appreciated!
