    Hi guys ,
I have a serious problem . I wanted to connect an LCD to my pc, and i bought one this week. It's 4x20 DEM20485 syh-ly LCD. I tried to make different circuits but its still not working. Just a light and black squares appears, so it means LCD is working, but it doesnt show anything from LCD Smartie (http://lcdsmartie.sourceforge.net). In this page its saying the lcd must be with HD44780 controller, and mine is with KS0066.
So, is there any difference between theese controllers? How can i connect lcd to pc with this controller (by LPT port) ?
Please help me, its big problem for me ,i dont want to throw an lcd through window... :waah: :waah: :waah:

    Sorry for my english... :worried:

Everybody say KS0066 is compatible with HD44780.... :worried: so i tihink I'll check my wiring and try to make some different circuits . I found some different so i'll try to make it all, if you know more circuits to connect lcd by lpt port , let me see it :)
JCG, what driver ? If you mean port95nt,then yeah,i installed it :) Installed, then pc restarted, and i think its all with this program. On lcdsmartie all configurations are good, the port is 378 (or LPT) , also i set the right port on bios ...

    Hi Rampage,
One more item to set : in BIOS, set LPT port to EPP (see the LCD Smartie FAQ).
For the wiring circuit, I always use the first circuit:
    http://lcdsmartie.sourceforge.net/circuits.htm
You can simplify the circuit by leaving out the 10K trimpot and ground pin 3 (this is for contrast control). You may also ignore pins 15 & 16 for now as its for the backlight (concentrate on getting the LCD working first).
Apart from that, it's the same advice as I've given ealier (check all wirings).
    Hope you get it working.
