Just wondering if any of you know a url for good lcd's in the uk. I have seen the crystalfonts and matrix orb sites, but shipping is a pain in the ass! Also who would you recommend as best??
Try Farnell That's where I got my VFD, and I've heard their LCD's are dirt cheap, if you don't mind wiring it up as a parallel
Software Do you find there is plenty of software available for it out there?I have seen some of the more popular progs around. I wondered if there was an msn messenger prog available. Anybody seen one?
And you can't use Mat-D-Rats excellent LCDC, as it's only serial. Mat - Please can we have parallel? pretty please?
Disadvantages - None really, IMHO. There may be some technical reason why one is better than the other, but hey, if it works and it's cheap, who's to argue? Software wise, Smartie 5 and LCDCenter 2.0 both support parallel. I just don't get on with smartie (Don't like the GUI), and LCDCenter dosen't display my Fan speeds from MBM5.
aluminium, and anyone else -- try http://lcdriver.pointofnoreturn.org, it can utilise Winamp plugins..... "Version 2.0 of LCDriver, still in development, adds support to the following devices (in addition to those supported by v1.2): All Seetron alphanumeric LCD and VFD displays. Graphical units will not be supported. Any HD44780-compatible display wired directly to a parallel port. Any HD44780-compatible display with Dale Wheat's PIC-an-LCD and ELabs EDE700 interface chips. The ZeroHype ZHED unit (acts as a HD44780 on a parallel port.) OPOS 1.2 compatible point-of-sale displays. One other difference is that LCDriver v2.0 supports keypads on those displays that have them, whereas LCDriver v1.2 ignores all keypad input." v2 should be out soon hopefully....
paralled vfd disadv's over an MO one... -no keypad -no gpo's -less software. -you have to wire it yourself (at your own risk) LCDDriver in it's current state won't work for //'s in win nt/2k/xp. Cheers, r.
