Hey, this is one of my first mods...done a few to my case (cutting etc) but nothing much..... its basically an Ikea lamp that I had in my room, but I have about 2 spare. I got a project box from Maplins, sprayed it silver (which I botched a biT) and put a 4x20 Parallel LCD, wired it up with a 1k pot to control contrast (put in at the back). The power comes through the two silver stems from the base of the lamp that had a convertor for mains voltage to 12v. Took that out, put 4 bright blue LED's in the base and soldered them to a switch to turn the lights on/off. The power for the LCD comes through the two silver 'stems" as said which, and a wire comes from the base and plugs into a 4pin molex with a pass through. Thats it really......kinda buggered up the cuttin of the square hole for the screen as meh jigsaw melted the plastic hoho.
yeah, I just need to borrow a file off someone...dont really have many tools in the house, was a miracle I got this done h0h0.
runnin Win2k Pro, found it hard to get a graphical equaliser but then I saw http://www.markuszehnder.ch/projects/lcdplugin/index.html. Hard to configure, and when u put it all on you have to restart winamp. Works well eventually.....but shame there isnt one for LCD Smartie, wish LCDC was compatible....might buy an LCD backpack.
nice effort, what about aiming the LEDS away from the base so it is more like a light? That has a lot of potential.
the LED's are in a reflective half sphere that came from the original lampin and is in the base of the light....and I have fiddled with it and they give off a fair bit of light, but im thinking of ways to get more light to eminate from it
whole thing. IIRC i used this software before and when i could get the equalizer working, it was all corrupted.
I used this software before too, and it corrupted the graphic equliser, but there is a newer update to this software that stops this as I dont get that problem anymore (thank god).
yeah my next plan is to get the file out, make the cuts look better, invert the display and make the paint job a lot bettah!
to quote dude wheres my car.. SHIBBY! nice work.. a quick file job would look nice tho.. or maybe some black plastic trim or something of the such.. -scoob8000
Nice version of Macroman's mod. I like teh way the lamp's base looks. One suggestion: Maybe place thin piece of plastic in front of lcd and use silver tint on it (macroblack style). Give it kind of a stealthed look. Or, do you think the backlight wouldn't be strong enough?
yeah i was planning, when i get some plexi, to do something similar...so it looks stealthed....will be phat.... Maplin project boxes arent really the best.... like the idea tho....wish I had a bloody car.....grrr could get all the stuff so easily then
