Yesterday i bought and wired up a 16x2 parallel LCD for a mate and checked all the wiring and everything seams fine but when i fire it up all i get is the test screen and nothing elce. Ive tried using LCDCentre and yes ive installed port95. Any suggestions of what could be wrong ? im sure the wiring is all right but ill check it all again :D. Also one thing i have noticed is that one of the chips on the rear of the LCD is getting rather hot is this normal or is something wrong ?

Check, check, check wiring:) It is probably some kinda short somewhere - i had a similar problem but checking all the wiring and some resoldering sorted it :) The chips on the back shouldn't get to hot....possibly shorting again. CHeck, chek, check.....

Also there is a dos program called lcdprint which can tell you if it detects an lcd - kinda useful for troubleshooting. What OS are you using and what is your parrallel port set to in the bios? ecp/epp ? Mail me if you want the prog.
