I have had the idea of creating something similar to a head unit that cars have for the audio system.

I currently have a watercoolingshop.com 20x4 (blue background and white characters) lcd.
I'm wanting to change this for a new display, which would allow scrolling without too much ghosting, as the one i've got is not really readable, unless you look carefully.
I have also had a thought of addig some switches and rotary controlls as well, so that it looks similar to a cars head unit.

I will be wanting to control winamp with it, and change between internet radio streams etc.

I have 2 5.25" bays in which to accommodate this.

The case I have is an antec PlusView1000AMG

The mods that I will likely do to the case are as follows.

I think the following is what I will do. (any input from you lot is welcome).

    1. Order parts etc.
    -Braiding from kustompcs.co.uk: http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2497.html
-Top window kit from MicroDirect: http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=6002&GroupID=0
-LCD (depends on outcome of this thread: http://www.moddin.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6706 )
-Nuts and bolts to fix case together, when rivets are removed.
-Handles to put on top of case to stop me using the case to put stuff on.
-LEDs for inside case from www.ultraleds.co.uk

    3. Take computer out of case and put in old case, after braiding the psu cables.

    4. Dismantle case to mod. (this part may not be in right order, but is sort of)
-Drill out the rivits, so top panel is seperated.
-Mark and cut top panel for window.
-Spray all inside the black metallic paint. (see above for the paint)
-Spray all the outside the metallic blue (but not the plastic front as i'm not sure what to do with it yet.)
-Add detailing and other bits using the mesh. mayby flames behind the windows?
-Add exhaust fan under top window
-Remove fronts off the optical drives and paint them.
-Connect everything back together in modded case.

I need some ideas of what to do with the front of the case (hence this thread)

i've not purchased any of the above yet.

Is this a good or bad idea?

well i'll see how much this is likely to cost, then decide if it's worth it.

anyone have any suggestions for a display to use?

Im planning the PSOne LCD mod and after a visual check this 5" screen is within the width but exceeds height by a few mm (landscape orientation). So any 5" or less should be okay if you have clear space either above or below the LCD.
