I'm going to post this in here as I figure you guys might be best placed to help me out. I am pulling my hair out now, it does appear that I have just wasted a serious amount of money on something that does not work A while ago I decided to save up for an LCD TV that I could use as a TV and a monitor for a PC in my room. I ended up going for the Samsung L22WA13W (22" Widescreen) as it was fairly cheap (being discontinued) and it had a DVI-I port at the back. (I won't go into the whole thing here, but I ordered it at the beginning of October and it turned up at the end of January). I went out and bought a converter so I could test out the TV with my old Shuttle that only has VGA. Nothing. Not a signal to set up the TV as a monitor, nothing. Black screen. When I tried to choose the PC set up option it just says "Not available". I figured it might be cos the Shuttle's running Windows '98. So, I bring my laptop home from work (which is running XP Pro), attach the converter and plug it all in, set up extend the desktop and..... nothing. No signal AGAIN! I've tried 2 different monitor cables and I'm getting sick and tired of trying things now. No drivers exist for this TV, and to be honest, XP's built in drivers should cope. I haven't been able to test it without using the converter as I built up a PC to test the new graphics card out, only for it to not POST at all. I can't afford to go buy a new motherboard just yet and this PC is faaaaar to heavy to drag across the house into my room Any ideas on what the hell is wrong with this thing?! Google gives me absolutely no help what-so-ever. Same with Samsung's website
it finally turned up then hex id contact samsund directly as they would probably solve it in 5-10 mins (they really know there stuff most of the samsung techs)
I'm with Sam on this one. Call Samsung they should be able to tell you what's wrong. Could just be a faulty unit they have sent you.
hex you ahve yet to answer the ultimate question is it shineh enough to warrant the wait (you must be nearly bald now after you were alwasy saying you were pulling your hair out waiting for it and nowyour pulling your hiar out agian) /me runs away very quickly
Hex - have you checked that you're on the PC / DVI Input? Or that it's enabled in the Setup menus? (You probably have, and I'm probably verging on telling you how to suck eggs... ) On my plasma, I can connect up a PC via a VGA in on the front of the tuner - but it doesn't automaticaly switch to the PC signal input like it would with a Scart. You have to physically select the input on the remote control. Is there anything like that on your remote, or buried in the AV selection menus? You may also be able to cycle through to the DVI input by repeatedly pressing the AV selection button (Usually looks like 0->)
Yeah my remote has a "PC" button. When you press it, it says "Checking Digital.... Checking Analogue...." and then it goes into standby. This does indicate it knows something is attached as when the PC is unplugged and you press "PC" it says "RGB............ no cable attached". I can't get into the PC screen set up menu as you can only do that when it detects a PC connected. I'm going to wait until I have a PC available to check it without the converter. If it still doesn't work then I'm going to flog it and buy one that does. Cheers anyway
You've probably already done this aswell, but have you tried dropping the refresh rate & resolution down? Also, for some strange reason, when I connect my PC up to my TV, I have to set it up so that the TV is the primary display, otherwise I just get a black screen. That's all I can think of on top of what's already been mentioned Good luck & let us know what it was when you get it working
AFAIK The there are three DVI cabling standards. DVI A DVD I DVI D Check out the link. http://www.directron.com/dviguide.html
perhaps try and acquire a video card with DVI-I output and see if it works (adapter might be bad or wrong format or whatnot)
Lord_A: Yeah, tried that. Dropped it down to the TV's natural res, then dropped it down further just in case. No joy. micb: Yeah I know, I have the right cables & converter. I still think the converter is what's causing the problems though. Altron: Yeah I have a card that I built a PC up especially to use, but the PC won't POST. (BTW: the reason I didn't test the card in the first PC I attached to it was because it was a Shuttle!) I'm having issues with the stupid mobo (ASUS A7N8X Deluxe rev2 - picky about it's RAM or what?!). My PC is a Full Tower steel jobbie and there is no way I can drag it round the house to my room. I am going to see if I can clear some room to bring the TV round though as I can lift that with one hand! Cheers for your help anyway, keep it coming
My guess would be that it requires a digital signal on the DVI input, whereas the converter is probably only putting the analog through (as DVI plugs can carry both digital and analog signals).
It's a possibility. Although as the screen comes up with "Checking Digital..... Checking Analogue......" I thought that would be OK.
I would agree with JazzXP. Digital to Analouge conversion takes a pretty complex array of parts. More parts than would fit in a VGA>DVI converter.
At last - it lives! It seems the converter's pooh. I just built up a PC for my parents and have bunged my decent graphics card. Voilà, Monitor & Tv in one. I'll post a pic later. Bit disappointed as it seems I can only have the PC as main screen and the TV as a little picture inside, not the other way around. Oh well.
Well, no good pics yet, but it's running nicely so far: (The OC was on TV.) [edit]As people have been asking, the res is at 1280*720 [/edit]
hehe spaced rocks have you seen jam? (or jaaaaaaaam) nice screen btw... hmmm *checks bank balance*... bah! damn you!
