I have a shuttle case and want to have an LCD/VFD on it, i know it will have to be moutned externally.

Which will be better a USB one or a serial one??

I am going to want to display things on it like:

CPU Usage, network traffic, hard drive space, spare ram etc

    Any advice me most welcomed.

    Cheers

    Wow, where to start.

My standard reply: pick the software you want to run, and then buy a display that supports it.

If you're going with external, my vote goes for USB. Although you can use a USB->serial port converter and get any display you like running that way, you'll have to power it separately. The new USB units from Matrix Orbital (look up and to your right :D) are currently limited to 2x20, so if you wanted a larger display you can wait, or use a port converter.

So the USB ones do they get power from the USB port or do they need a seperate pwr supply??

I would probally use LCDC as it seems to the accepted one, does that let you scroll through screens eg

Displays network traffic for a few secs then swaps to displaying something else??

if you can get a decent way of getting power to the VFD without it looking ugly i'd go for the serial.... why waste a usb port on the shuttle when there are 2!!!! serial ports?

If i went with serial i would have to drill a whole to get power out, as my PCI slot is used, and add a extra power lead inside my shuttle which i dont want to do.
