I'm having a bit of trouble with an LED chaser I'm trying to build, I've messed around on Electronics Workbench with the idea, but can't seem to find a counter that counts up and then can be switched to count down, any suggestions?

Also, does anybody have any experience building these, any circuit diagrams I could take a look at ?

    Thanx

How many lights do you want to drive? A 4017 will do 6 in up/down mode, like this, or Bill Bowden has a 16-stage using an up/down counter. :D

cheers guys, cpemma - have you tried this circuit? I built it in electronics workbench but it won't seem to run, probably something to do with me being st00pid :)

I'll build it later when I can find my box of bits, cheers for the help.

The 4017 one is on my list of things to do once I've sorted the bathroom, but I first saw this circuit on Westminster Public School site (so it must be kosher ;)) and it's available as a kit in the UK from Doctronics (link on the page).
