I've been to many LED sites, and am grasping many of the "concepts" (still going to find a Electronics for Dummies book at a used book store, but I digress...), however I'd like to locate something pre-manufactured or a tested schematic for the purpose... My ideas center around an LED controller. The number of LED's it would be controlling is likely around 50 (have not drawn it up yet with dimensions and such, but that is probably really close.) The LED's would have a series of effects pre-programed into the controller logic so that I could push a little tact switch on the front that would allow me to cycle through several effects (chasing, random, slow fade<all>, slow fade<alternating>, all on). Has anyone attempted this/done this/know anyone who has? Please let me know. Meanwhile, I'll keep looking for my answers! TIA!
Rather than LED sites, you need to be looking at electronic project sites etc. I came here thinking you wanted facts on the LEDs themselves... sorry.
im sure you should be able to find a circuit for this somewhere, if not there should be a premade one availible from somewhere like maplin.co.uk
I would be tempted to get an old set of fairy/christmas-tree lights, and see what you can do. also go have a look in the electronics forum for help with the basics. people will be more responsive when you have more specific questions.
I'm afraid you'll have to find PIC / uC circuits if you want multiple effects. This is a very good site, maybe they can be of any help. Try here http://www.discovercircuits.com/L/LED.htm for 'normal' LED circuits. Or buy some MADLights
