Hey all, Just a quick question: We all know that if you place a 3mm LED into some 1/4" plexi, it'll light up with a nice glow. But, I was wondering about doing the same thing with dark plexi? In my case, I'm embedding UV leds in UV reactive plexi, and I was thinking of embedding green LEDs into some dark smoke plexi (color 2074 for all who've ordered it before). Just wondering if I can get a glow out of that, too...anyone got a piece to try it out with?
LEDs in plexi I have tried this and you need to sand and difuse the LED to try and stop the light being so directional. Check out the Orac article for more info. For UV I found that they are best either recessed half way or mounted in through the edge. You can get a nice effect this way! Shouldn't be a problem with green so long as you get some that have as wide a viewing angle as possible. Another idea would be to use normal clear acrylic with some sticky film on the back, either black or smoked...
