yeah, I want to put a bright LED inside my DVD burner so that when it ejects it flashes out the front. could the light from an LED interfere with the laser in any way? I'm like 99.999% shure it wont, but I wanted to ask you guys first.
It's just as likely as that led interfering with the lights in your room. You would see that as brighter and dimmer sripes in the led's light field. If you don't see it, it doesn't happen. So it's a safe bet to say there won't be any trouble in the DVD burner.
How exactly are you wanting to light up your drive. Are you going to put a window in it so you can always see the disk or are you wanting it to shine through the front when it is open like this: > Thread <
As far as I can tell, he/she, and myself, would like to simply put an LED into the DVD drive case so it can be illuminated.. though a window wouldn't be out of the question
I put 2 leds' in the DVD drive glued to the top of the case. Since its an ext drive I used the 5 volts from the usb (so when my pc is off, the lights are off) but now when I plug it in, it says the drive failed...
Depends, red, orange, yellow, green tend to take close to that, blue and white are usually 20-30, still not that much I guess..
I'm useing blue, and considering usb only gives 500 mah, maybe 2 leds would draw to much curent. either way, I'm just gonna swap to the 5v molex
It's not quite like that though. Before enumeration a USB device must use less than a few mA, after/during enumeration it must request to draw more than 100mA. If these rules aren't obeyed, then it can cause a problem with the enumeration and Windows will say the device malfunctioned. The device will still get power - which is how those cheap USB mug warmers and the like work, but it usually causes problems with enumeration if you're using an actual device on the bus.
Done! how does it look? I told 3 of my friends that it was a Blue-ray drive, and they belived me, lol
Looks great, clever calling it a 'blu'-ray I use quotes because I hate purposeful and useless misspellings in naming/advertising
