I'm looking to change some of my home energy saving bulbs for led ones. I'm not poarticulary bothered about the warmth etc, just want a decent amount of light in each room. I'm mainly looking to replace my lounge and bedroom bulbs and both rooms have fittings with multiple bulbs, lounge has 6 and bedroom has 3 so I'm not sure which wattage to go for. I was thinking that maybe the 5w ones would be good enough but I'm not sure. These are the two packs I am looking at. 8w ten pack 5w ten pack Would these bulbs be okay?
Look fine to me, I got a similar pack from Screwfix last year for not a huge sum of money and they are all still going nicely.
I was just looking at these 8.5w led bulbs at screw fix, same price but not rated for as many hours. Bonus being that I could go pick them up today although I'm not in much of a rush.
That was the main reason I went there in all honesty, I had a couple of bulbs needing replacing and I was able to pick them up on my way home from work.
I'd certainly check the colour temperature of LED bulbs as there's a huge difference between 'Cool White' (4000K+) and 'Warm White' (~3000K). 4000K bulbs are more suited to Kitchens and Bathrooms as they are very white. In a Living Room or Bedroom bulbs around 3000K more suited as that colour temperature is much more relaxing.
Hmm all the ones I've already bought are 6000k, ouch. Just installed one in the dining room and it's very bright and very white but then again the bulb it replaced was one of the older energy saving types and it gave off a very yellow light. The ones for the lounge are also 6000k but are only 5w bulbs so hopefully might not be as bright although there will be 6 of them. Maybe I should have waited for more responses before I purchased
6000k will be a bit stark in the lounge. I have them in the kitchen and bathroom, but 3500k in the sitting room.
got some Philips ones for the kitchen, love em! think they where 3500k ish, dont think 6000k in the living room is a good idea as others have said :/
Actually the screw fix ones are 4000k and they are designated for the dining room (as already fitted) landing, bathroom, porches (front and back) and the kids bedrooms. Bit worried about the 6000K ones for the lounge although as I mentioned they are about half the wattage of the ones I already have, I can always send them back I suppose.
It's gonna be bright! I have these in my main living room lights and they are fine for general lighting but a little too bright for mood lighting as they can't be dimmed.
Well the 6000K bulbs were as warned here way to bright/white plus one of them was faulty and actually melted the plastic cover slightly. Amazon have agreed to refund them and I have purchased some 2700k ones. I think I will buy some 2700K ones from screw fix as well to use in the bedrooms rather then the screwfix 6000k.
I have 6500k in my bedroom at home, and personally I love it. Each to their own and all that. Did look a bit odd walking into the room at night though
Exact ratings vary a little, but this is pretty accurate as a guide: Personally I'm not a fan of the warm white bulbs, tried them in my bedroom and it was like having a street light on my ceiling, horrible lighting effect- they tend to look better in side lights or lamp stands with lower power ratings, for accent lighting when the main ceiling light is off. YMMV
I have these IKEA ones and they're pretty much indistiguishable from 40W incandescant anes (except they're only 6,4W) Nice, warm light. Got them (a lot) cheaper as twin-packs here in germany though.
