Is there any way of dimming a yellow LED ( dunno if color factors in ) as to cut down the light put out by it ?

( keep in mind im totally new to this, and i have searched the forums a bit, and googled the topic but it kept giving me stuff about the dimming of traffic lights :sigh: )

and i am aware of there being another post about LED's a few threads below this, but its sorta the opposite of what im wondering and i didnt wanna hijack that persons thread

and im also wondering if by dimming ( if its possible ) it will extend the LEDs' life even if just by a little bit

*Update on my current project* the designs are coming along... its just a matter of being 100% accurate withem thats eaten 2 days of my time already !!

sorry if this is considered to be newbie spam :blah:

    Hello there!

You question is a good one, do not worry its not spam...in that case I should be shot:p

Okay, if its an ultrabright you cant drop the current TOOO much. If it drops below the cut off it will simply turn off....

best play around with a pot connected to the led and see how low you can turn it and do a simply calc and see its lowest current..

It's quite easy. Use a LED resistance calculator and double or even triple the ohm value of the resistor ... should work.

im gonna power 4 leds on the same 12v line ( for future reference)

    so i take the values

    supply voltage: 12 V
    Continuous Current: 20 mA
    Forward Voltage: 2.4 V

and it comes out for me to use a 560 ohm resistor so i get 4x resistors in the range of 1120 or somethin close too it correct ?

*edit* nm i got it now :) thanx for the help guys !

and sorry it was posted in the wrong section :wallbash:
