I want to replace a small rectangular LED in a a little switch that I have with a 5mm blue LED. The thing is that there isn't enough room in the small little switch for the 5mm LED so I wasn't thinking of grinding it down to size while still keeping the leads in-tact. Has anyone tried this before with good results? I mean, I'm just taking off some of the plastic shell, then polish it a bit. It should work right? Thanks.

Yes. Been there, done that. Should work fine, just stay clear of the junction is all.
