Here's my problem: I've got a few LEDs hooked up to the ringer on a phone to flash when the phone rings (instead of a loud ringer). However, there's not enough voltage going to my LEDs, they're just not bright enough. Is there any way that I can up the voltage (using 2 batteries), without using an EM switch? I was thinking using a transistor switch, but I have no idea how to wire that up. Help?

Use an optoisolator. Or you could hook a 2N2222 up to the ring signal wire and put that in series with the LEDs and their resistor.

not sure about canada but US phone systems use 90v AC for the ringer.. and something like 16v DC for noraml operation.. for the ringer try using a small 120v neon lamp from radiohack. (the little ones that light up orange)

Hmm... and exactly what kind of optoisolator would I need? Where would I get one of these? Also, just out of curiosity, is an optoisolator just a switch that's triggered when current flows through it like an electro-magnetic switch?

Correct me if I'm wrong, I beleave that a optoisolator is a led and a photo-transistor inside a chip. It acts as a perfect isolator, because the output turns on when the led is on.

As for what kind you would need, I think that the one Macroman used for his HD/Power led project would do nicely.

Yep, that's it. Go for the darlington output for several LEDs.

Ok, thnx, I think I've got it. I'll post some pics once I'm done in the modding forum.
