peeps still playing this game? i got it around thanksgiving last year, and have now started playing it more than ever with my squadmates. game is fun as ever. and ditto to the ragequit comments. seems like one guy tries to rush at the beginning, gets owned, quits, then the rest of team loses quickly and quits. sigh. back to the lobby lol.
Have to say, I've given up for the time being. After a few weeks of solid playing and "this is the best game evar", it's dead to me! Needs more campaigns, Valve need to fix the weird hexed lobbies and also the game desperately needs some sort of player ranking system to stop rage quitters and general haters.
I'm still playing on a frequent basis with my crew, we've moved up to Expert proper now, and finish the campaigns more often than not!
Getting so tired of ragequits.. friends and I like to play Versus (there's 4 of us) and we generally get an entirely new opposing team maybe twice every map now, its so annoying. I run my own server, and I've recorded that during the span of the No Mercy levels on Versus, we went through 62 opposing team players.. 58 people joined and quit by the time we finished the last map and returned to the lobby.. insane.
Yeah, it definitely needs a system for dealing with arseheads. When some moron on the survivor team decides to start pumping shotgun shells into his team-mates' backs in the safe room the game has already been ruined at least a bit no matter how quickly they call a votekick. I really wish they'd fix the gimpy areas in levels like the closet at the elevator and the breakable shutter door and so on. Sure, it's 'part of the game', but it's generally agreed to be a lame part of the game and against the obvious design goals implied in the rest of the level. Hopefully that'll get changed with the next big update. I'm still playing though, at least once per night for an hour or more at a time, definitely one of the better games of recent times. Great value for money. It's painful to think that I foolishly paid €50 for FEAR2 and got 2 days of gameplay out of it (1 day of Singleplayer on the hardest difficulty, 1 day of the mediocre multiplayer), yet I spent €45 on L4D pre-release and am still playing it weeks later.
I thought they removed all the cresendo-missing tactics (like the shutter door) months ago? I don't have any mates to play L4D with on a regular basis, so I always just play with randoms. As such, ragequitters don't bother me. Versus can become a bit juvinile though. Expert co-op is the only way to go.
Sadly, no. A team bashed the shutter door on the third level of No Mercy last night while I was playing. I don't mind that one so much, because the survivors can still be attacked quite well by the Infected even when they huddle into that corner, since they still have to cover a wide arc of possible attack-directions. My issue is with the room behind that corner where there's a storage closet just big enough for the 4 survivors to get into; 2 crouched, 2 standing. Once in there, all the survivors need to do is melee-spam and shoot and they'll get through the elevator crescendo without taking any damage - There's practically nothing the infected can do to harm them. A hunter will be melee'd and stunned the instant he pounces in there, boomer bile is rendered useless by their defensible position, smokers will be made mince-meat of once seen by the survivors, and anyone the smoker snares will be melee'd free instantly. The only special infected that has a chance of harming the survivors once they're 'closeting' is the tank, but I've never seen one spawn there. There's a similar spot, though not quite as bad, in the subway level, behind the pipes in the corner near the crescendo shutter-door that raises slowly. It seems ridiculous to me that areas like that where put into the maps when they went to such efforts to make the minigun-mount a more exciting place to defend, and so on. I personally think it's areas like those that ruin the game in Versus. I don't mind them so much in campaign mode, but even then I think they detract from those crescendo sections which are supposed to be difficult and tense, not a time to just beat the hell out of both mouse buttons alternately in frenzy. If you insist on being sporting and refusing to use them you get accused of being a noob by any team that knows to use them, and either votekicked or left 4 dead.
I'm hoping we might get some completely new campaigns at some point. Either way, I still enjoy playing the non-vs mode with friends. The story might be the same, but the actual gameplay varies wildly depending on how hard the AI director feels like making you suffer.
I dont no but Im assuming that the Left for dead is a game that your a chracter that was left behind were theres a bunch of zombies trying to kill yeah ? well sounds cool i like a game that ur going to be a ll alone when there are zombies trying to kill yeah .
There's already 6+ campaigns being built by other players, soon as the SDK hits you can expect to see a flood of custom campaigns
Even on PC? I'm very impressed, that was one of the main things that Valve fixed with the January update. Maybe a new bug? It's funny, people have such issues with this, and it's one room, in one level, in one of the campaigns. It amounts to a tiny, tiny part of the game, but everyone is up in arms about it. And arguably given both teams can use exactly the same tactics, it's completely fair. Come on, it's not that bad. Whenever I'm instruced to closet camp, I just say "no, it's boring and pathetic. I'd rather die and have fun than be a coward and hide in the closet" and it shuts them right up. Erm.... no. Not too hot on Google are you?
Just because both sides can do it, doesn't make it acceptable. Given that closet-camping and it's variants are 99% effective, why not just cut out that part of the level and save us all some time? If the survivors always survive unharmed in these situations, there is no point in those sections of the game - it's just padding - and the games are long enough already. I usually play with at least one mate and if we are out in the open, people don't dare to closet-camp - it just looks so conspicuously lame. All closet-campers know they are being lame but there is safety in numbers. Take that away and they usually follow like sheep.
L4D is a good online game, but i agree the controlls are a bit slow, even you are a smoker and you have dropped a surviour it would be better if you could release the surviour and go for someone else. hopefully Valve will sort this issue out. Looking forward to the new levels Death Toll and Dead Air on versus!! Bring it on!
Dude, review. Flibbles: If you changed that, the Smoker would be much more powerful, upsetting the balance. As it is, I think it's pretty decent as-is. The biggest trouble I find is that even a half-decently co-ordinated team make it very hard to beat them when using infected. Especially the first few levels of No Mercy.
The main 'problem' with Left4Dead is that because games can be quite small (8 players, compared to e.g. 20 in TF2), a clan or group of good players on one team will absolutely decimate the opposition if they aren't as coordinated. Coordination is so stupidly important that its very easy to have two totally unmatched teams, which results in the mass problem of greifers, lamers and ragequitters. It's almost as if the game is too good at rewarding genuine team work, as it's nearly imposible to play by yourself, but you become nearly invincible if you play well with three others.
All very true, which is why I don't play versus. I don't like unpredictable opponents, it was my biggest complaint with World of Warcraft. Versus mode will become another CounterStrike pretty soon, where everyone still playing it is uber-pro and nobody else can get into it. I hate that ****. Also, are they gonna release anymore campaigns on top of the current 4? It can't be hard to make new ones, and hell I'd even be prepared to pay a few £ for them if necessary. 4 just isn't quite enough to keep the game fresh...
well they are supposedly coming out with the new source SDK so people can start making their own campaigns. I cant wait!!
