I want to basically have some Cold Cathodes outside my case at varying lengths. Of course in order to do this I will need to make the power cords longer. Is there a way that I could hook up three or four Cold Cathodes to one inverter or whatever it is (so that I only press one button to switch them on/off)? Additionally, how would I go about making the cords longer? Wouldn't I just simply strip the wire down and get some identical wire, solder it on, then resleeve it? Cheers! Edit - It should also be noted that I would like to be able to unplug the Cold Cathodes externally, rather than having to go into my case to do so. If this is at all possible it'd be much easier for me, as I plan on mounting the Cathodes somewhere in my room and it'd make moving my computer around much easier as I could just unplug it without having to open up my case.
The only way is to extend a 12V supply to the inverters. You can't extend the high-voltage, high-frequency output wires between inverter & lamp much at all without light problems. But you can put a single switch in the 12V wiring and switch several units on & off.
i have seen some solt to where there were 2 that shared one inverter but i doubt you can put any more than that without a really good one
But I could extend the wire from the molex or whatever plug to power it to the inverter? So instead of ----{inverter}-----{cathode} it'd be ----------------{inverter}-----{cathode} right?
nothing wrong with that at all, its just the wires between the inverter---cold cathode that you shouldn't lengthen
Sounds good. Not exactly what I wanted but since my computer will be cramped for space as it is, it'll be a plus for that. Thanks for the help!
just be carefull man with adding more than 1 ccfl to an inverter!! those things have a high number of volts running through them so u dont wanna strain them check out www.casemodgod.com to see what an exploded inverter did to his mates pc! nasty stuff!!!
