http://www.ebuyer.com/product/265605 A regular email from ebuyer contained this today and it caught my eye. It seems to have a good spec at a fairly reasonable price and I'm wondering what bit-tech makes of it.
i3 is entry level so seems expensive CPU wise stupid RAM configuration as bloody usual from retailers low end descrete GPU is nothing special id say should be cheaper
No it's not, lol. Entry level would be a single core CPU like a Celeron or Pentium. Laptops with Intel's "Core" series cost a lot more because they have the newest architecture - we found this out when buying a new lappy for my wife, and in the end settled for AMD because they were the only reasonably priced units.
i3 is intels new entry level CPUs they arent bad or the cheapest but they ARE entry level for the new range same laptop without the GPU http://www.ebuyer.com/product/265604 contains an i5-2410m which is considerably faster
You can still buy new single core laptops? The screen is definitely budget. That's a sh!tty resolution these days.
That seems quite decent for the money. I was looking at one for my aunt last week and I went for this for its bigger screen https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Samsung_R730_1041049.html
I know that it is entry level for the range of CPUs, but OP is talking about buying a laptop, not a CPU. As far as laptops go, Core i3 is midmarket and is certainly not what you would find in an "entry level" laptop, hence why I don't think this is expensive for what it is.
Thanks for the replies. I am on a budget and thought this might be a good compromise plus it's the first laptop I've seen at this budget that has a blu ray drive and a GPU. I would like the option of playing games (albeit on low settings). Plus I don't want a screen any larger than 15.6". If anyone has other suggestions let me know. I have until August to take the plunge. I'm a teacher and need a new one for school
WHO THE HELL NEEDS 6GB OF RAM IN A LAPTOP???!!!! edit: I am just saying this after a friend has upgraded her laptop before she bought it for an extra £150, from 4gb to 6gb of ram.
In the desktop segment yes, but currently there are no 1155 Pentiums in the laptop segment (unless they have been introduced very recently - the only Pentiums that I know about are the Arrandale models). Technically speaking the Pentium models are just i3's without HT and lower clocks anyway, the difference is relatively minimal. In the budget sector, laptops with i3 CPU's can be bought relatively cheaply, I don't really see any point looking lower again. To the OP: For light gaming try to find a laptop with at least a Nvidia GT420 (NOT a GT520) or AMD HD5650m. Coupled with a decent CPU they will easily manage medium settings at 1366x768 in most modern games. Anything lower than these GPUs and you will really have to make quality sacrifices to get the game to run let alone be playable.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/268391 Out of stock now but picked one up last week. lacks a dedicated GPU but HD3000 is decent enough and more importantly quick sync. For the price THAT is a freaking awesome deal.
I thought that too when I ordered it. It was down to that or a last gen i3 Asus and the specs won but tbh the build quality is very good, Possibly better than my GF's Lenovo. The screen quality is impressive and the keyboard was fairly comfortable. The touch pad might be a tad flaky at times but scrolling on it is responsive compared to any other laptop I've tried. Its not much but Compared any bull crap HP, Compaq, dell (solid but look and feel like crap) or advent, Acer are easily premium! I've an aspire one netbook too, picked up from amazon for £250 with the extended battery 2 years ago and the keyboard and screen where miles better than anything else >£400. Apart from fan sounding like its grinding the last few months its been pretty sweet. Ill picture it now and upload if people wanna see and OP doesn't mind.
