The digital thermometer in our room insisted the room was 28c yesterday but my feet definitely felt cold a lot of the day (granted, with fans and the evaporative cooler pointing at me) which was an absolute delight! I have a few leads for air con stock possible at various points this week, so if I manage to scrape together some funds there's a small chance I can get something. Probably not though.
My local The Range stocks various BTU sizes and have a few in stock. If you have a local store might be worth checking out. From what I could see only the Daewoo 12000 BTU version was worth getting unless it's going to be in a small room.
Thanks, my local Range is in Bristol proper so I doubt I’ll get a look in, but I will definitely keep it in mind to check!!
It's 20c / feels like 14c along at the coast, but it's a nice change. So glad I'm off work and not sat in my sweatbox of an office.
According to the Beeb, normal disservice will be resumed next Monday. Get that AC now, while people think it's all over!
Hibernating in a suitably chilled environment, through June, July and August, is beginning to look like an appealing alternative.
Something is wrong my weather ap starts with a 1... That's got to be an error right and I've just found out Apparently next week we hit the 30s again and I've got a shipping container due. sod that!! Ive not seen any blue sky all day I'm waiting for my big thunder storm it's the only good thing about warm weather. Roll on snow !! I need to move somewhere I'd get more snow.
It's too hot again. But this time, I'm ready! I may look like the nbeighborhood crackpot as all my south facing room windows are covered in cardboard and space blankets, but it's really dropped the temps somewhat bearable. PXL_20260708_104625114 by Idioteque posted 8 Jul 2026 at 14:07
Interesting I have some of that foil bubble type insulation left over from when I did the shed. I wonder if that would work as a window blocker. When I was sorting the shed out on Sunday is was noticeably cooler in there than outside.
Yeah should work nicely. I considered actually buying a roll but by the time I needed to hang stuff outside there was only time for tinfoil from the corner shop. The seal on the outside doesn't need to be perfect, it's about blocking the solar gain from direct sun, not about making it airtight or anything.
Going to be 34c today hopefully the shipping container has been delayed and won't turn up till next week the thought of doing that in this heat.. I got the reflective stuff on my windows installed but it made difference from around 11 the sun Is on my room till it sets so it just cooks, last night I slept on the floor down stairs my back hurts to much to sleep in a chair
Man last night was absolutely barbaric, ****ing 30.5c in my bedroom at 2am is not fun. Jesus I don't think I can do another night like that tonight, think I'll sleep in the fridge instead
Might I suggest plenty of ice, a bit of lemon for vitamins, tonic water for its anti-malarial properties and some gin for fortitude?
