Ive been everywhere looking for a really good quality high back chair. Really need it for back support, I saw a really nice one on some Youtube video with this guy who does random reviews on tech but I cant seem to remember the name of the video or anything about it ( I do remember him having two dell 30" monitors in the back tho <3) anyway yeah wtb help please! I am willing to spend up to £450 or so. Really sorry I think Ive put this in the wrong section
I bought a car seat out of a sports car, cost me 15 pounds from a garage, bit of woodwork (and about 20 pounds of wood and a spirit level (as I seem to have lost mine)) later and I have a really comfy chair to sit in
Le Mator has a similar setup to what I'm after though if you can find an estate car, or saloon, (or better a seat from the cab of a bus) they're all briliant to sit in
That man is called Chris Pirillo http://chris.pirillo.com if you go onto his chat room and type "what is chair" the bot pixie will tell you
This topic comes up from time to time from a lot of desk based users, Here is the latest "desk chair thread" over on 2p2 were people take their sitting down seriously more so than games in fact.. I can vouch for the Humanscale Freedom Chair which is on the front page of above link. Its worth browsing through the ideas there.. I sat in a (old beat up but good) highback chair the other day and I felt wounderfull as If I could sooze, some head support would be nice so I think Ill be chaing out this perfectly good chair for an ebay £50 high back chair which there are plenty, black brown, and white. You can spend a mint on a new chair and I think doing so is worth every penny if you can afford it.
Damn you all.. Just spent 10 minutes googling and youtube-ing the Aeron... and... NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED Only thing is, do they last a decent amount of time, cause I begrudge laying out Apple money for one if it'll just keel over in a year or two..
I spent all of last summer sitting on an Aeron at an office job and I don't see how ANYONE can justify that kind of money for one. I didn't find it comfortable at all. I much prefer my bog-standard faux-black-leather high-backed office chair (the kind you've likely seen thousands of times before) which happened to cost literally 1/10th the price of an Aeron. http://dack.com/misc/aeron.html That page matches my views. On the other hand, I'm inclined to suspect they're made to last. Every chair in the office was an Aeron and all of them seemed to be in good condition even after a few years and they do seem sturdily made. The thing is, it's a case of each to their own - I think office chairs are like computer mice. Some people will swear by one model and others will say it feels horrible in their hand. The best way to choose one is to go out and try them out wherever possible and find the right one to suit you. That's not to devalue the opinions of people posting suggestions here nor to suggest that research into chair ergonomics is pointless, but subjective preference is always going to win out and nobody can tell you what you like.
you could talk with the guys at the Spanish inquisition.... edit: on a more serious note, observe this TED video: http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/niels_diffrient_rethinks_the_way_we_sit_at_work.html
Personally I find my Aeron very comfortable, but it is a bit like Marmite: some people love it, some hate it. However I do regard the views of someone who felt the need to make a web page just to tell the world how much he hates an office chair with some suspicion. Let it go, Joe, let it go...
Well if you didn't like it i suspect its down to ergonomics. Chairs and things which have to interface with people with different sized bodies, if your chair wasn't comfortable then you probably have the wrong size of seat/back. Herman miller is obsessive as every designer should be, he is considered to be one of the leading furniture designers furthering ergonomic study. He is respected and is considered to be one of the greats like dieter rams. The guy slagging off his furniture earlier is just ignorant and doesn't see the brilliance in his work, fine its subjective just don't be a dick about it trying to pimp your wannabe maddox blog. also if you have a big enough budget you might be able to pickup an old design classic, http://www.designclassics.co.uk/product.php?productid=45&cat=5&page=1 Eames also knows his shizzle.
Yeah, I love the EA219. Good link, by the way, thanks. The prices in that shop are more reasonable than even on eBay.
first hit on google, so i can't really claim credit. by the way i believe all furniture on that site is either re-conditioned or new so you will get a quality product.
I have an aeron chair at work, which I am sitting on right now, and its comfortable enough for an office chair. The hard front edge definitely makes my legs numb though. I have this Ikea chair at home and its the best one I've ever had. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20103101 The back is very tall on it, the mesh cloth on it is comfortable without having the lumbar thing stuck in your back from the aeron, and it reclines a very comfortable degree. Its solid, and weighty, and doesn't creak or feel like its going to snap. If you have an Ikea near you I recommend you go try it out in the office chair section!
