IMO it should run at, would it be... 2160p? Twice the size, twice the res if you ask me. That said, :jawdrop:

    Eep. :eeek:

Of course, when you power it up, the whole neighbourhood blacks out. And turning up the brightness is not recommended without liberal application of sunscreen.

surely it shouldnt use more power than a washing machine?

Nothing has been announced - I think these companies just like to prove they can make such things so we'll all think that they are l33t and buy their brand of the more affordable stuff :)

I believe the price rumoured for the Samsung was on the wrong side of $100,000...

Plasmas, so ive been told, are rated around PC PSU wattages for 40-odd inches, so dunno how much a 100 incher takes.

I say there's a difference between claimed peak load on a PSU ie 550W, and what is actually used. Plus, you need to work in Wh, not just watts.

280-340Wh it would seem, for a 42" plasma. There's a reference to pixels, so sounds like a 1080p PDP would require more than some of the woeful 720p models.

Needless to say, I expect this 102" whopper to cost a pretty penny to run per hour. And after that, divide the purchase cost by the number of hours you use it...

I think the average is maybe 3 hours per night during the week, plus maybe another 10 hours on the weekend... that's 25 hours per week. Working on US$100,000 purchase price, that's $77 bucks an HOUR based on one year's viewing :( Indeed, it's cost you nearly 2 grand per WEEK - I'd suggest there were far better things to spend your money on.

Wow - how's that for an Off Topic branch: what would you do with $2000 each week? You can't save it up from week to week - whatever isn't spent by Sunday night, you lose. Ironically, I'd reckon that would actually get pretty boring after a few months, if you think about it...

It looks amazing, but wouldn't it be better to develop a home-use/scale equivalent of the iMax theatre? (i.e. get the full-visual-field aspect another way)
If only projectors could be made more affordable, and the brightness increased to cope with a brightly lit room....

For a projector, a 100" diagonal screen is nothing - that's only a 230cm wide screen, which most projectors could do in a standard sized living room (say, 12-15ft throw distance). As you say, though, the problem is viewing it in daylight.

I'm moving soon, and I've had the go-ahead from she-who-must-be-obeyed to use one of the rooms in the new house as a home cinema - which I should be able to do for £6-7k. That includes all the AV kit, not just the projector. Anyone who pays £100k+ for a plasma has more money than sense.

You never know, maybe I'll take some piccies and make a worklog out of it...

I like what my brother did in his home theatre, for daytime use he has a 60 inch projection screen above his mantle, and then in his basement he has the theatre w/120" screen (projector), and with the small windows downstairs there's more than enough light control. Just draw the blackout curtains and vavoom! You can watch Return of the King until you drown in your own drool.

    Tis a nice screen!

The resolution thing though.... I dunno. I've always like the 17" TFT over the 19" as the picture looks finer. Same with the 20" to 22" bracket.

Still want to watch movies all large though

Rear projection screens can get pretty wide but nothing this brilliant in color. That is simply amazing quality. It's the price of a house and you can't even eat inside of it.

but i bet you could eat off it tho! And yes its stunning but a projector would be able to do the job nicely. And what if you wanted to hook up two of those when connected to your PC. 100"'s of TV with that annoying stripe down the middle. Get two projectors and line them up correctly and you wouldnt know that there were two of them!

    Perfect quote....

It's a nice screen, to be sure. However, I'd like to see a company working toward cheaper units instead of bigger ones.

Curious though, I wonder how much that thing weighs.. I know some of the larger plasma around now push over a 100lbs.

Same reason people think that a stock generic 300w psu that comes with a case will power their $4000 SLI dual-core 2TB rig without a problem. Stupidity.

Pope - that can't be right. Maybe you didn't convert from watts to kilowatts? Or does that include the cost of the TV added to the power (or just the TV)? Of course, prices would have to come down over time.

I'd rather put the money towards one of the 200,000:1 contrast screens featured a couple weeks back, but realistically wouldn't spend over $5k on a TV unless I hit the lottery for $20m+
