Just wondering how easily the std case badge comes of the front of these things and what condition the metal is behind the badge, ie the same as the rest of the front panel or does it look tatty? the case in question is a PC-7. cheers :thumb:

Not speaking from experience, I think that they should be easy to pry off, but your problem would be what it was stuck to to the case with... you might face a blob of glue of some kind. This may be hard to remove without scratching the surface underneath.

yeah thats my main concern what state is the case underneath, if its just a normal case badge it should be ok as it's jsut a sticky backing. I'd just have to be careful when removing it as not to scratch the case below. But if its on with glue as you say it might be a real mess.

On my PC-60 there's a recess for the badge, I don't know if you want to replace it with something else, but if you were thinking of having the clean look there would be a nasty hole there :D

depending on the type of glue. something like goo gone might be able to leave sticker like residues.. If they've used hot glue, a heat gun or something else hot should work (but don't use anything hot on plastic)

If you are afraid of scratching it, why not use a plastic implement of shearing. Like a credit card, that might fit. Might not.

One thing is for sure, nail polish remover won't take the gummy residue from the badge away, it only spreads it around. Acetone might be your only alternative.

Only thing with acetone is that it can really easily melt plastic..

If my orgo serves me (and of course it never does :waah: ), nail polish remover is made with acetone. And yes, that will eat thru plastic so be careful.

i always use white spirit to get rid of adhesive residue. Not sure if this can help in your case (no pun intended) or not

goo gone or goof off are good choices... I use stuff I get where I work that are little pads (like the alcohol pads) that are labeled "adhesive tape remover" and it works great... Not sure what the stuff is, but it works a wonder...

At work, we use an aerosol marked "Label Remover" from RS components.
It seems to be mostly citric acid, at least the room stinks of oranges when it's used.

I actually jsut removed mine yesterday. :D

Just get an exacto blade at a corner and wedge it under, it jsut pries off super easy.

The crap on teh bototm is a pain, I tried scraping with my nail, but that jsut spread it around, I don't know about any other goo gone chemicals or such, but I just used some MEK to remove it. Make you take off the plastic bit on the botom before you use it though, or it'll melt it.

Oh, MEK is methyl ethyl ketone. It's just an alcohol solvent. acetone should okay as well. Avoid Xylene though, I've seen that stuff do weird crap to aluminum and plastic.

I assume you only care about removing the glue from the case itself and not so much the case badge. Since the PC-7 is aluminum, I think alcohol or acetone should be safe. Just avoid getting it on any plastic parts.

I was thinking about doing the same thing and putting in a lighted badge.

    Good luck!

SNAP! :thumb: Took the badge of this morning, came off really easily. As Kargin said i just used a stanley blade at the corner and lifted it up gently, made a tiny tiny scratch on the alu where the end of the blade touched the front but its almost impossible to see.

The glue/stiicky stuff came off really easily. I just used some brake cleaner and an old rag. Yes brake cleaner meant for cars, very good cleaner meant for degreasing brake parts and evaporates quickly. Same stuff i use for cleaning the cpu core and removing AS. Works a treat :D

The idea behind removing the orig case badge was to replace it with a lighted badge altho not in the same position. It was going to go below the power and hd led's but now i'm unsure... the badge would be lighted by the led's from my raid card so i know when it was working.

Glad it came out just fine. What are you going to replace it with, if anything...
