i'm building a new machine and am using the lian li PC-50 and was just wondering if anyone had anyideas in how i could mod it?
am using this case as it is small as i lug my pc around a lot, and my current pc is a CM Stacker with a couple of litres of water in it, and weighs the same as a small aircraft!
I was intending to put handles on the top, and a window, but ideas for the window i'm not sure about, was thinking either a mesh, or blacked out perspex (the stuff used on car windows)
The case is primarly aircooled, but will DEFINATLY be watercooled eventullly!!
    The hardware going in is:
    A64 3200+ winchester
    abit an8 fatal1ty
    xfx 6600gt pci-e
1 gig of twinmoss twister pc3700
    1x 80gig wd s-ata hdd
    1 NEC DVD-RW
    420watt tagan psu

The colour scheme of the PC is all red lighting etc!

and finally this is the beautiful case:

Well if you lug it around a lot, handles are a MUST. I like MNPCtech's handles (they're springloaded and recessed), but I've made the same error twice (out of two times) with them and placing them right over the 5.25" bays. The problem isn't the depth - they're very thin - but rather that you have to chew up the top of the 5.25" rack because of where the screws mount.

I like the idea of a tinted or dark window, it's not done too often, and when it is, not always too well. Maybe put some LED backlighting in where the front 80mm fans are. Possibly a top window or something (but of course, not interfering with handles...) as they're not done too often anymore.

I feel that with LL cases, you need to have mods keep the elegance of the case intact. They're a canvas for modding, but you can't deny their unmodded beauty either. Just some food for thought.

yer, thanks for the ideas, a top window might be good, was only gonna have one handle in the middle, and that was the type i was thinkin of! not sure where to get them in the UK tho! am going to have a red LED fan in the front, hopfullt lighting it up a bit, if not, some LEDs in there would be ace! thanks

I always wanted it get one of these and mod them. My plans were to put the psu in the 2 top 5.25 bays (with a 80mm blowhole in the top, so it sucks air from the top of case, through the psu and out the top) and run the IEC connector out the back. Then make a custom braket where the psu was for 2 80mm fans. Put a switch/fanbus in the 2 3.5 bays and just add a nice window and some handels and you got a great case. Just my ideas that I always had for this case.

as said before, neat, subtle mods work better on Lian Lis as they have a very sleek look to start with. you dont want to go over the top.

i was thinking a nice purple lighting scheme would go well with that case.

given the unusual layout of this case, make sure you plan any mods very carefully.
I'll again suggest that any mods should be sleak, and tidy, not spoiling the lines of the case.

quick simple things to do are relacing the buttons for belkin ones (although everybody is doing that nowadays) lighted fans would look good behind the grills at the front and the blow hole. some nice Alun feet could look good aswell (like the ones you get on HiFi stuff)

im liking the idea of moving the powersupply, that is a deninate possoibility!

i'm going for a red lighting scheme, for 2 reason, the mother board has built red LEDs, and my room has some red details in it, and it would fit in nicly
    thanks for the ideas
