Has anyone had experience removing the rivets on a coolermaster PC-65 window (the factory installed window). I would like to remove it to do some work and put in a newly etched window. I've heard people do it with a 3mm drill? And replace it with bolts and nuts? what size? Is it safe?

Does the samething go with the rest of the case?

    How are the feet attached?

Has anyone removed the rivets for the top panel and just replaced them with screws so it can be removed easily? Would it be possible to replace them with the thumb screws?

Well..of course you can drill out the rivets and 3mm should work. If you dont have a rivet gun, you can get one for like 10 bucks and of course buy the rivets at the hardware store. And just rivet it back on once you put the new window in. Oh and yes...the rivets on the rest of the case are the same way.

Teh feet of the lian li are just held in by clippies...Hers a pic.

EDIT: heres what a rivet gun and rivets look like just in case you didnt know, you might be able to find it in the store a little easier.;)

Can I rivet gun remove rivets or only install them? Only way to remove rivets is to drill thru them? Can you explain that? Just use a 3mm drill bit on the hole in the head of the rivet, you drill thru, then what happens?

Yea all you do is drill straight through it..and basiclly just pushes the other side of the rivet out of the hole..hard to explain kinda but just go at it and youll see..it takes about 2 seconds to drill out a rivet and its easy because you already have little hole on the head of the rivet to start your drill.

Oh, and on your thumbscrew question. You would need to buy a tapping set. It basiclly goes in your drill and will create threads for the screws. But I think the holes will be too big for the thumbscrews, and youd need to find thumbscrews with a bigger diameter.

Do you or any know what size screws and nuts to use after drilling the window rivets? I assume all he case rivets will make the same size hole?

Whats your reason for needing to use screws or be able to take the top off all the time? I mean im sure you could go into your local hardware store and find some screws that will fit, but i mean its kind of pointless and rivetting it back together will give it that oem feel and look. But im sure you could find some regular screws and just use muscle and a good screwdriver to screw em in. Its just aluminum you should be able to do it.

Oh and if you wanna do nuts and bolts instead, try your local hobby shop for some smaller hardware the normal hardware stores usually dont carry.

Oh - so drilling out the rivets leaves the aluminum and the hole the same - so you can just pop in a new rivet the same size? What size is it?

    AAAAAAHHH!!! BLASPHEMY!! :eeek:

Sorry...I like having the ability to take the top off all the time because I'm constantly in my case fiddling with stuff. Being able to remove the top is wonderful, on a lian li especially since the area for the PSU and 5.25" bays is hidden behind that solid piece of metal. It just makes it easier to manipulate cables and such. :thumb:

The replacement of rivets on ALL cases that I have seen can be done this way, but be careful, and don't leave the PC running at the time, and preferably remove the electronics from the case as to not short anything out.

HAHA Green Soda - I didn't notice that. My current case is a Coolermaster so I'm used to typing that in :)

For all you who took out the rivets on the top and made it easily removable - did you replace it with thumbscrews? Does it fit well? What size of normal screws or bolts would you use for something like the rivets of the window?

tok3n, i responded to your email, so you should have the answer shortly...

But, if you dont want to read it:
no, i didn't use thumbscrews, i dont open it up that often to need them. And in the front (depeneding on you LL rev), they might interfere with the front.

Yes, it fits great, i had extra screws from my screw box (eww  ) that i used, so i dont know what size they are.

And im sure the rivets in the windows are the same as the case, i put my window in myself, so i dont know.

Ditto here. I also used some leftover screws that I had from some case. Not sure about the size....
