Both my gaming rig (see specs in my sig) and my AMD 700 with 512Mb are experiencing problems downloading stuff. Both are on WinXP Home SP2.

Both machines can only have 2 simultanious downloads at once. And they're downloading very slowly for a 516Mb DSL connection. The AMD 700 used to be on Win98 not long ago and back then it could have 10 simultanious downloads going at a fair click.

So what's wrong with these systems under WinXP? Can anybody help, please?

    An update....

I have managed to solve the limited download problem with a little Register hack so I can upto 10 simultanious downloads. :thumb:

However both PCs are still a little slow downloading.... :eyebrow:

If you're running a router check that, otherwise check the windows firewall if you're using Firefox or Operah or w/e.
You sure that a 512MBS connection? That seems kinda powerful to me... :worried:

I do now suspect the router! :grr: It's a British Telecom router, and in the UK British Telecom (aka BT) are synonimus with the words "crap", "muppets", and "shyte service". And one of its 4 sockets is definitely very flakey.

When you have DSL installed in a house you are ment to only use a BT router. Because otherwise if you have a non-BT router and something goes wrong with the connection at your end, BT will not fix it. Most people with any sense buy a better 3rd party router and switch them over. I'm only on my BT router because my Netgear one went *PHUT* and I'm waiting for a new one to arrive.
