I was just wondering what the accepted norms are for these things in a generic home environment?

I have a wireless D-Link 614+ router and a D-Link 520+ PCI card set up at opposite sides of a fairly medium sized house with no special sources of interference or thick wall etc. I get a rating of 100% for the link quality, but the signal strength varies between 70% and 50%. Should this be higher?

For a more stable/better internet connection? I'm sharing a broadband connection with another PC. The other PC is wireless and has been having some problems keeping a connection.

Hmm, shouldn't really have any problems in the range you're getting, below 50% maybe, but I use my laptop when its on like 40% and it's fine. Are you losing connectivity to the internet, or connectivity to the wlan?

I have the same problem. As you say my pc is fine and its on between 65% and 80% and the other pc is between 55% and 70% and the pc with less drops out all the time. Id be intrested if anybody has any views on these occurances.

Yeah same here. We've tested it with simple downloading tasks. Start a download, then if I literally move into a certain portion of the room, the % starts to decrease, once it hits approx 50%, the net connection disappears completely. Sidestep and it starts to go back up again and the connection reappears. It is so bloody weird. We've managed to basically boost the signal by running some CAT5 to the highest point in the upstairs room and perching the router up there. The signal gets a steady 70-78% now with (so far!) no drop in connection. It would be nice to get it even higher...
